I am going to assume since you mentioned 1106 (Bone Shatter) that you primarily hunt as a pure for XP and you aren't doing a lot of heal-downs.

In no particular order:

1. There's no reason to be using a shield. You aren't trained for it sufficiently to provide a good DS bonus and your strength and dex bonuses (which factor into shield DS) are very low. So drop the shield ranks and get a runestaff. You'll have way higher DS using one.

2. If you aren't channeling Bone Shatter, I'd recommend doing so. This improves with use of a runestaff as I believe, unless I am mistaken and please correct me anyone if I am, the use of a runestaff does not count as having a hand occupied during channeling. So you get the two hand bonus.

3. I wouldn't dabble in all those lores right now. Drop all but ML:M and push it to the maximum for your level. This greatly increasing your chances for instant kill procs with bone shatter.

4. You're 2x PT and 2x HP. The gains you're seeing from those TPs aren't that stellar. If you're going a pure route, I'd get those TPs back by 1xing and then 3x in spells (1x in each discipline). This will give you access to a lot of useful spells and push your CS way up.

Feel free to shoot me a message with questions or ask here about anything. Here are some good literature resources if you want to crunch some numbers on build ideas:

thank you for responding so quick want to hunt using spells but also be able to heal well. Im sure all empaths can heal well enough to chill in an area and keep a full mind at later levels I just want to do it sooner than later.

The 2x PT is a good idea... get up to 30 or so ranks, then stop, until you get to level 30 (when you'd want to pick it back up ay 1x'ing).

After playing around with my new empath for a bit (20 trains) I went with over training in Empath Spells for more CS instead of training in Lores for Boneshatter.

I do just fine without a single lore and at 20 I've got 26ish ranks of Empath. At least at an early train I don't see the value in the lores. Doesn't mean I won't fixskill him once he's older and there's no longer the empath TD push down... for for now I'd drop the lores... unless your going more of a healing route.

If you want more info on the lores there's a really good post about them a year or two ago in this empath forum.

I'm going to try that!
Right now I just spam bounties and try to heal as much as I can. I like to heal, but I want to be able to hunt if I need to.

Grab more armor so you can wear doubles.

I stopped manipulation at 25 ranks. From what I've been told from higher level empaths, training more doesn't increase the chance for instant death that much to make it worth it.

I don't channel at all, screw the RT, and rather just stay in guarded, since its isn't even really worth channeling unless your in offensive.

The OP has since reconfigured to a warpath build. But I felt it necessary, for posterity, to correct a few of the above misconceptions:

As for channeling, a bonus is seen at all stances (including guarded):
http://www.krakiipedia.org/wiki/CHANNEL_(verb)

The biggest factor to channeling bonus is actually how many open hands you have - not stance.

To that end, my post suggesting that holding a runestaff counted as having two open hands is totally false. Not sure where that theory came from - but it's just plain wrong.

Regarding ML:M, no calculations currently exist (to my knowledge) that detail the % chance to instant kill / rank of ML:M with 1006:
http://forums.play.net/forums/GemStone%20IV/Empaths/Empath%20Spells/thread/1422386?get_newest=true

It'd be great if we knew, but the current wisdom is more ML:M = greater % chance. I'd guess it's likely seeded or scaled the way lore DF functions, with a hard cap at some %.

That is all.

People wouldn't discuss channeling in different stances if they didn't know that you could do it in different stances.

From your krakii link: Stance gives a bonus of 5 at guarded and 20 at offensive which is multiplied by the number of open hands.
Based on that it means in all stances its 1:1 ratio bonus you get from stance and from having a 2nd open hand. So equal bonus you are getting through out. Unless your channeling without an open hand which is pointless.

I didn't know those exact details for channeling before, thanks for the link

Just re-read your original post, didn't even realize you had said it was two handed bonus the first time I read it or I might have mentioned that. But yeah, mostly people usually ask and want to know if you are considered as having a open hand with rune staff since its a twohanded weapon, which you do, just the single open hand.
