Looking for a new way to stream video from my computer to my TV. Currently, I use a modded original Xbox but I know it won't last forever. Does anyone have any ideas?

If distance isn't a factor, you can use a standard hdmi cable. If distance is a factor, it depends on what. You want to stream and how.

The Xbox with Vuze is what I do now.

Wireless HDMI Kit is what I want:

You can clone your monitor to your tv if you like. I prefer that over streaming.

I feel like he would already be using a physical connection over an Xbox if he had the option.

Get a networked DLNA box (Western Digital makes them, among others) and run a DLNA server on your PC (I use Serviio on a TV with DLNA built in).

There's an app called the PS3 media server you can install on your PC. Once installed you can browse shared folders on the PC from the Xbox, assuming both the PC and the Xbox are physically connected via ethernet.

If you want to do it with a DLNA server, TVersity is free and works great:

(I've found TVersity, along with most free and paid DLNA servers, to suck huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge dicks, but that's just my experience. Running on a Samsung TV, fwiw.)

Having had issues I've found the following to be true:

- One of the devices has to be wired. If both are wireless, it sucks.
- Streaming to Xbox360 works much better than to the TV (Guessing it buffering on the hard drive on the 360)
- Streaming to the PS3 has never been that great for me

Everyone's setup is different, but the best I've seen is Windows Media Center to Xbox360.

I'm gonna buy that device Bob mentioned, it does what my xbox does and more.
Thank you everyone for your advice.

Does it natively handle Matroska (mkv) files? I recently bought a WMC remote to control my computer from bed with my TV as a second monitor, and I had to install ffdshow and some other stuff for it to play my HD content. As a side note, I'm watching a show with two audio streams (English is the second one) and I have to manually switch to English on the ffdshow config tool, if you happen to know how to set it up to detect English as a default.

I actually built a wmc 7 box (about 320$) to server as a htpc, streaming content from my server. Using MediaBrowser and a scrapper, I get not only all my movies and shows, but meta-data including artist thumbnails, backdrops, etc...

WMC doesn't natively support mkv, but using shark007's codec pack, that is easily solved.

XBMC is another popular option as well, particularly since you can install it on things like apple TVs, etc...
