Are pookas the best bet for a level 29 wizard?

I miss hunting lich's and monks, but it just takes to long to fry now.

Any other suggestions?

In Icemule skeletal ice trolls are good. Awesome hunting there for a wizard from about 30-50.

Thanks for the info.

I see cold guardians and regular ice trolls in the area too. How is the treasure on all of these critters?

Any thoughts on a wizard fighting farmhands?

All of those creatures do carry loot.

Treasure mechanics work the same everywhere (or at the least on all BCS creatures). Modifiers are applied based upon PC vs. critter level (if the creature is more of a challenge, average value of drops will be greater). The most important effect to understand is forcing. You have forcing if the creatures are over-hunted, causing the average loot value goes down. After a certain period of inactivity, the forcing from over-hunting relaxes and the average value of loot increases. I'm pretty sure that effect operates on a cumulative sliding scale. There are certain areas that I've seen which see little to no activity and despite being 10 levels below my character, the creatures repeatedly spawn with pretty decent enhancive items (+5 LOG bonus, +6 DIS bonus, +8 INF to name a few). Also, GMs can manually adjust a "slider" for loot forcing in areas. They had a "frenzy" period a while ago where they turned the knob all the way up to 11. In less heavily hunted areas in the 30's & 40's, I found multiple 5x weapons during that time.

Any time someone asks "how is the loot" there are really only two things that can be said: (1) the creature does/doesn't carry loot and (2) treasure mechanics. There are a lot of superstitious players who seem to think that the loot in particular hunting areas is either good or bad. These would be the same people who have "lucky numbers" or would have you believe that past probabilistic events will dictate future outcomes (e.g. "4 has been a hot number today, keep betting on it!" or "we haven't had a 7 in a while, we're due for one any second now!").

As for the farm, it's pretty good. It gets a little hectic, though. It's swarmy, you can get disease from the farmhands, and the tree spirits have a pretty nasty boil earth. Maybe they even call wind, I can't remember. The boxes are on the tougher side for their level range. It's a pretty sweet place for hunting in a group, though. I'd definitely recommend trying it. Wizards and clerics do pretty well there. Sorcs are good to have along since they can phase the non-corporeal spirits so they're crit-able.

not sure if it still happens but pookas used to swarm if you just waited a little while in the room with one. then you could just quake, and cone and be fried very quickly. i stayed in pookas for a very long time since they were so easy for my wizard. i was at least 4 levels above them before i moved on.
