Do us wizard need them?

I don't open the boxes i find, I'm doing hunting (same level, not over hunting) & some enchanting.

I generally try to 1x it, but about 20-30 ranks is fine.

so the skill does not have any impact of any spells for hunting or doing enchanting?

Nope, nothing to do with wizard spells. If you need more perception you can also rapid fire 402 yourself for 4 hours pretty quick.

You do need it to travel though. Finding crevices (lol) etc.

20 ranks should be enough to find hidden stuffs in hunting grounds. Especially with haste and 402 (the krag yeti check is kinda hard at 20 with no bonuses).

And it also helps with ambush pushdown, like doing Bandits. But asides that, what others said holds true.
