Hello all. I am a returning player, but things have changed in the last 15 years. I brought back an old rogue and younger cleric at the same time.

I have a few questions for those who might know.

Halfling Wizard - Level 28 - Caster - Robes/Staff - CoL Master

I won't post stats or training information unless someone needs me to. I read about 25 pages back in the wizard posts and I'm not real concerned about stats or all of my training. I started to get nervous that I might have been reading old information, so I stopped at about 25 pages.

1. Lore - Right now I am concentrating on air lore.

As a halfling, I was drawn to air lore because of the extra disk space. Then I found out that 505 works great as an opening attack spell.

Is there a good reason to go above 24 ranks of air lore? The disk space doesn't seem very relevant after 24 ranks. 505 is great though. 918 is a great spell as well. Any thoughts? Should I start training in fire lore?

2. Elemental Mana Control - Should I 1x in this for life?

3. I use robes and a staff and don't really want to move to full leathers. This is more of an RP decision. Thoughts?

4. Combat Maneuvers/CMAN - I don't completely understand how this works, but I am reading on it now. Is there a particular skill a halfling wizard might use? I've read dirt kick is a decent one.

5. At training 28, where should I hunt? I was in the monastery with lich's and monks. They were great until about 27 trainings. Then just a little tougher/slower to learn from.

I moved onto pookas. Should I stick with pookas, go back to lichs/monks or try something different?

Many years ago I remember fighting hooded figures and I thought they were by pookas. I could be wrong. I fought some in the broken lands and they were a little tough, but I was 25 at that point. Any thoughts on figures?

Are miners my next move when I get to be mid 30's?

6. Finally, does anyone have the link for a script for the wizard guild? I saw a couple of postings on it, but the links did not work.

Whew, sorry for the long winded message.

Glad to be back! Thanks all.

If you're doing air, I'd stop at 24 ranks (maybe it's 33 for one more disk slot, I can't remember, that might be a reasonable starting point for you). Air lore is not particularly good for boosting DF (you have more combo water/air spells). If you compare 505 to 906, 1 mana gives you a HUGE DF boost. As an opener, 505 is great, but 906 is a better damage dealer. I would splash in some fire lore if you want to squeeze more damage out (up to 1x lores is my personal preference, EDIT: and if it's for DF boosts only, no more than 50 ranks in a single element).

Armor-wise, as a wizard you shooting for never getting hit in the first place. Robes is quite a drop (I use light leather over full leather because I got some padded ones) but it's probably not too substantial. It's not too risky to try it, but light leather is a free improvement.

I 1x EMC. Lots of secondary benefits. I think most people do as wizards.

Instead of CM, I'd go 1x in PF. Maybe you'll want to get a rank or two of disarm. 1x PF will give you a big boost to maneuver defense. I can't comment on getting disarmed since I don't have much experience hunting in such places.

There's an alchemy script. Other than that, the wizard guild is just stupid wand tricks, right?

Don't do CM until around cap, or even post cap. It is purely for defensive CMans. 1x PF is the way to go.

As for robes, I use them on all my pures. They are stylin'. The object is to not get hit and well, just don't get hit.

I will always recommend double leathers. Preferably crit padded. Fuck RP. Seriously. 4% spell hindrance is worth the dozens of times your ass won't die after a cheap maneuver attack hits you.

Trust me. I've been there.

If you want you can just buy armor concealing robes for like 5 million ish and no one will ever see your robes.

Pft, fuck that mess. Robes are life.

Biggest recommendation I can give you if you're not already doing it... write a script that puts you in offensive, casts a bolt spell, then puts you back in guarded. This will save your life like you wouldn't believe.
