As you pick the boxes up at various intervals during the hunt and the phased container lasts 26 minutes (10 minutes + (6 secs x 160 sorc spell ranks), my hunts usually end as my first boxes come back into existence causing only minimal encumbrance for the last few minutes before returning to town.

Not that it matters but my gem pouch holds 200 gems.
And since we are giving out phasing tips, for those who don't know you can phase cursed black ora weapons and drop them. I haven't tried with any other items then black ora but I would think it applies to all cursed items which can be phased.

Perfect for the Rift.
Open your box (you should be able to open anything not enruned or mithril using lots of perception, 402, piercing gaze, 408 and 407 etc etc - Oh yeah ignore tough traps), prep 704, cast at coins, get coins, put coins in cloak or whatever, empty box into cloak (gems and stuff you want) and then remove your coins from your cloak, put them in the box and keep that box for all phased coins from other boxes. Phase the coin box.

I thought you could only phase locked containers. how are you relocking the boxes after you open them?
I don't think that's true about them having to be locked.

If you have a container that is closed and you are stowing it you can phase it. But it only lightens the load by the weight of the container not the weight inside the container. Now if you phase a locked container, it reduces the weight of the container and contents.
Cast at coins? I haven't phased for coin fishing in a long time but I thought you had to channel the spell at the locked container to fish inside it?
I unlocked the box, opened the box, cast 704 'at coins' or 'at my coins', reached inside and took them out.

So, I've done this before, and after some doing, I did it again... but I tried to break it and rage on the world because of it. Luckily i had the presence of mind to not cast implode IRL. So.. here's a recap.
Frantic to get all the "stuff" and a crystal made, just to try to animate a dead PC. Had the moonflower (the hard thing to get, IMHO) so bonus. Everything else should be easy. Had a cat's eye moonstone... orb. K, not the best, but without hunting and hoarding, that'll do. (Shattered, sell every hunt, hoard nothing) So, run to the alchemist with a scrip (teras) and buy 3 mortars, and 2 flasks.. load one with water (after a small search) and then go kill a troll, try to collect, don't have a vial.. go buy vial, kill troll... collect. (didn't think to pour the vial in the flask and fill it up.)
Alright, have a tried and true script from way back that can make multiple crystals at a time... set it up... run. errors.. <debug> tip over the mortar, realize I didn't have the pestle, buy pestle (on IFW now) and try to push moonflower with pestle. <MAJOR STUPID> Error messages... fail, ect.
So, after some time, and after wasting one out of 3 moonflowers with the second loaded in the mortar.... why not trash the pestle... go back to Teras, buy one there. It worked. (So that's stupid... )
Then, since my sorcerer fails at all things sorcerer except killing shit... I stuff the crystals in a jar (cause it makes it easy) and go to the dead guy, shake the jar at him... grab my orb gem... 730, cast deadguy. Orb blows up. <wonderful>
So, I learned....
A) Get necro lore.
B) Use higher quality troll blood.
C) Don't fuck up in the alchemist shop.

if you're only animating people, and you don't have any/much necro lore, use someone else's crystals (someone who has a lot of lore). You don't need an orb gem, you can use any gem.

I was under the impression you couldn't fail raising characters. The only check is that their group is open.
Primarily used as an alternative to dragging fallen comrades, the success of player character animation is automatic (there is no MAL restriction). The target must have their group open or the spell will fail. Once animated, players may UNLINK ANIMATION to release themselves from the caster's control, causing their body to return to a dead state. The duration is 600 sec + 4 sec per Sorcerous Lore, Necromancy rank. Gem value also adds to the duration, but less so than when animating creatures.
Was the person kept? I've had that interfere with raising people as well, it doesn't let the crystals work on the corpse. If not, they had their group closed and you should take a limb each time they waste your components.

I was under the same impression regarding player animation and being unable to fail (it may even come from the spell description on the website), but I've failed with it as well. It's been a while, but the characters were both mine. The corpse was definitely not kept and I'm pretty sure the group was open.

OK, so, apparently I don't fail as bad as I thought at it. I've been unlocking and charging up scrolls like a madman... slowly but surely adding more automation to the process. I think that if I start using some of these scrolls, I'll really see the benefits of this.
The biggest obstacle for me was separating the "unlock" and "charge" processes. just cause you unlock a spell doesn't mean it'll need to be charged.... All this came about in a frantic search for some wizard strength at 5:00 AM in Shattered in Ta'Vaalor. I had a scroll, unlocked 509, and added "a few" charges, I believe, until it was full, and used a few charges, then re-charged it. It was goddamn epic in my world.
I've been using all the runes, beir - quiss (Sorry, I abbreviate.) Like, the last scroll I infused was a 303 on a scroll with 319, 106, 109, and 113 on it. I used beir cause 303 is the only spell in that range... was the smart, or should I have taken my chances with a higher rune for... more charges or... lower fail? Any "tips of the trade" now that my rage-fail at this would be awesome!

Using beiron'fyn allowed you to unlock only that spell, but now you have a scroll you have to charge every 5 uses. However, jumping to Quiss'fyn would have been a bad move because that would have given you a chance to attempt to unlock/charge 319, which is one of the most difficult spells to work with.
Ikar'fyn is the way to go. 15th level spells on down would have avoided 319, yet given you a decent amount of charges before having to infuse again. Yes, you would shorten the life of the scroll by likely having to put 15 charges into the other spells accidentally unlocked, but the biggest spell of all would remain unlocked, saving the scroll a large amount of mana devoted just to 303.
The best way to use beiron'fyn would be to unlock it for the lowest amount of charges. Think about how you would unlock the scroll if you wanted to use 319 instead of 303. You would first use beiron'fyn to unlock 303 with the least amount of charges, then erikar'fyn for both 106 and 109, then ikar'fyn for 113, leaving one wave of Quiss'fyn to unlock only 319 for a maximum amount of charges.
A bit longer winded than you wanted, but hope this helps.

unlocking lower level spells using the lower level runes preserves the scrolls value (a bit).
if you *only* wanted to unlock the spell 303, using beiron rune made sure to *not* unlock the other spells, and would give the scroll maximum lifespan as you will *not* be charging other spells on the scroll and reducing the value each time.
yes it means you will have to charge the scroll every 5 or so uses since beiron won't allow it to charge further.
when i have a scroll i want to unlock with a high level (15+), i go through the motions of using every rune on the way up to make sure the lower level spells don't charge too high and reduce the value of the scroll and reduce the value.
when the pawnshop says the value is 0 (or something like that), it won't charge again

Interesting question. I'm 97% sure when you invoke it will run one of them down fully before starting to use the other. However, I'm not sure if it will automatically run down the one that is unlocked, or the one that is listed first, or a random choice. I would unlock both of them.
Let me know if you get duplicate to work. I can't duplicate shit from a scroll invoke.
rolfard
04-17-2012, 05:01 PM
In that case I likely unlock the duplicate, unless I *only* unlocked one spell on the scroll and it was the one I wanted and I don't want to risk unlocking anything else and charging (lowering the value of the scroll) other spells.
