lich + avalon help [mac]

Okay, so I followed the directions verbatim on the lichproject site, and in terminal I believe it's connected. It says:


Waiting for the client to connect...
Connection with the local game client is open.

...upon opening Avalon, but after choosing game/character nothing shows up, no game window, no nothing. It says Avalon is running but the process hangs and the game never comes up. I haven't seen any similar issues on Avalon threads.

As a long time Mac user my advice is if you want to use Lich to just play GS on a PC. Unless you are running the most up to date Mac OS with all the current patches trying to get your machine to recognize Ruby and all its requirements is going to be daunting sad to say. The process is timely and involves archaic phrases into your console.

I use Avalon and am quite happy with simple macros. I've tried Lich and go2 and it does not feel like the game I am used to playing. I guess I actually like hitting the key like my char is hitting the mob.

That's how it shows up for me after entering the commands. After that, I open Avalon and I'm all set.

Having used lich on both pc & mac, I would agree with Back's opening sentence.

That's a thread I started when I had what sounds like a similar problem. The final download that ended up working for us was http://lichproject.org/download/lich-4.3.1d.rb. I don't know if anything's been changed since then or if that's still valid, but it might be worth a shot.

Sweet. I'll have to try this when I get a chance-thank you.

I'm not getting any RANDR errors (or any errors for that matter) in terminal, the only issue is Avalon not starting up. Well, the application opens but no windows come up after the character selection window, similar to what you said.

And for the other Avalon users, is it just me or is the exp bar a bit off? It seems the bar is ahead of what is actually reflected when you input experience in the game window. Any fixes for that? I know it's not a huge deal I'm just nit picky like that.

I have a windows laptop and a mac desktop. I use stormfront on the labtop. I am paying a guy to install lich and avalon on the mac, i'll see how it goes, if it works out, I'll post how he did it.

Has anyone used lich and the wizard client for the mac?

I saw a quick flash of lich and avalon working, all the text was white, I didnt see how you could get the character names to be highlighted except by doing it by hand. Also i didnt like how you didnt have the blue hyber/click link on items. I hope there is a way to switch that.

I tried using the wizard client for mac, but I'm currently running Lion and the last update for the wizard client said in 1994, and couldn't proceed any further due to no further legacy support.

I have no idea what lich + avalon is supposed to look like, being able to click players/items sounds like a different game completely. I'm really hoping I can get it running when I get off of work.

Moebedda: I ended up ;repo download uberbarwiz and that works nicely. Hope you can get lich & avalon to play nice!

Middian: The wizard client for mac is Avalon, or at least supposed to be something pretty similar. Yes you will have to highlight everyone/everything's name manually and the blue links on items, creatures, exits etc. is not available.

I had to go through and highlight (east, west, out, portal, etc. etc). Basically all different types of exits and certain gems and a bunch of other crap. If needed, I can PM you my directional list so you can just highlight it in whatever color you like.

Ok tried the updated file as suggested by Soybean, same results. Terminal window reads:

...upon opening of Avalon but the same issue: Avalon opens but nothing pops up. Any ideas? I have a sneaking suspicion that it's something very simple which I'm hoping.

just to reiterate the issue so that it's clear, upon reading all the other posts regarding lich+avalon there are no errors in the debug logs.

tried changing the nil to '/etc'

tried using the .rb file in the other thread.

terminal states that there is a connection but nothing happens in Avalon. it never opens and all the options are greyed out.

Well this guy got avalon and lich working, I just dont have ;narost and the maps. I do have ;go2. I have to say I like the play expierence better on the windows, but atleast it gives me another option. I'll see if I can get him to explain how he accomplished it and I'll post it.
