Apparently I have a project due tomorrow that I completely forgot about. It's to make an instrument and play an octave + song on it. The point is for the difference in pitch/frequency to be noticeable. I'm thinking of making a xylophone out of a bunch of cardboard boxes and soda cans.

Before I fail miserably, will this work?

Why not do the old glasses filled with different amount of water thingie.

They do that on TV like semi regularly, no?

Or are those like Waterford Crystal or some other such horribly expensive sort of glassware?

It works with all glass.

Be lazy and just go beat on a 5 gallon paint bucket or empty 5 gallon spackle bucket.

It didn't work.

At all.

The question still remains: What the fuck was I thinking?

I still need some ideas. Badly. Can't do the pipe thing because I don't have a pipe.

Take a plastic soda bottle. Not the 2 liter one, the small 12oz ones.

Poke some small holes in it along it. Blow into it like a brass flute.

Not sure if it'll have an octave+ range, though.

A rubber band guitar would also work.

I'd go with the glass idea if you consider a bunch of glasses a water xylophone. Otherwise, you can tip a container half full of water and tap it with a pencil for different octives. Gonna have to practice a bit though so you don't spill.
