SIMU-SOLOMON -- Saturday's Debacle on 01/03/2012 06:37 PM EST

We're sorry! On Saturday, December 31st, our Hosting Provider had "a problem" that resulted in your being able to play your favorite games for right around 12 hours. We're not even sure they know what the problem was yet, but no matter what happened, Saturday sucked for us and for you and for that, we wholeheartedly apologize.

While we want to get to the bottom of the problem, we're also actively looking into other Hosting Provider options so that this sort of downtime doesn't happen again.

Please remember that when bad stuff happens, we will do our best to keep you updated on our Twitter Feeds, Facebook pages, and Tech Update Mailing List (http://groups.google.com/group/simutechupdates), so make sure you are signed up!

We want to thank you all for your patience on Saturday and we hope to bring you lots of fun and excitement in 2012.

Figured, while not news it was worth saving for posterity. It's probably the first time I've seen Simu as a company apologize.

I also thought it was worth commending, since the majority of the trouble wasn't even their fault, and they appeared to be on the surface working hard to resolve it, on a night when people mostly would've have just said 'fuck it' and went and got drunk like everyone else in the world was doing.

Kudos for you, Simu. Kudos.

I think they did a great job considering the date and the time. While we were all kidding around complaining, I don't think an apology was necessary.

I'm glad to hear they are looking into another provider though, especially since this isn't the first time lag or downtime was cited as their current provider's fault.

I'm surprised no one else picked up on that gem. Even Simu realizes that their games aren't our favorites anymore. :)

I tried to log in, couldn't, then got drunk. Laphroaig Single Malt FTW.

I had to experience reality for several hours. I hope someone got fired over this.

At least it was in the evening so the burning orb in the sky didn't hurt you if you ventured outside.

I never even knew GS was down until I saw 23235 e-mails from Eric Lathan when I checked my email on the 1st

Simu-Melissa apologized to the sorcerer profession for ignoring us almost entirely during the HSN releases. I have the post saved somewhere.

So, 2nd time.

Laphroaig tastes like you're trying to drink a peat heap. It's the grossest whiskey EVAR. Even SoCo is better than Laphroaig.

Johnny Walker/Jameson ftw.

"The Peat Monster" is way worse than Laphroaig. It is like someone took an ok blended wiskey, added 1/5th volume liquid smoke and then tried to sell it as a mid to top tier single malt.

The Macallan, 18.

As for the apology thing, they picked the provider, and after numerous smaller problems were still using a problem plagued co-lo only a few miles from the home office. That just doesn't make sense, and that's the error they should be apologizing for. If they still have an office over in Maryland, a logical conclusion would have been to co-lo at one of the many suitable services near AOL HQ.

Kudos to the RPAs they handed out for getting killed during the crash.
