View Full Version : Your Connection Speed

I remember there was a thread which discussed this issue, but for the life of me I couldn't find it. What is your connection speed via this website: http://speedtest.net/ Also, if you could mention what wireless router you use that would be helpful as well. I'm trying to see how my new Belkin stacks up against everyone else.

I'm fairly sure my wired speed is fully maxed out for what I pay for, 36mb/s and change d/l, and a little over 3mb/s upload. I'll have to load up my computer downstairs to get a good idea of what my wireless connection speed is as I imagine my 3GS will have bottleneck issues.

Cheapest internet and over a router. Tested it on my Galaxy Tab 10.1, as my computer is in the shop for repairs.

I switched to Dallas servers and got better download rates..

Lol I'm not even going to post my pitiful speed. 30+ mb/s would seem like warp speed crazy to me.

Qwest messed something up when they installed my DSL. The speeds are reversed from what they should be.

I pay for 40 down 20 up.

Lagging hardcore for some reason. Probably because I'm doing it remotely. On the basic Verizon FIOS router. My upload should be double that.

Equipment

Modem: Arris WBM760 DOCSIS 3 - http://www.arrisi.com/product_catalog/touchstone.asp

Router: Linksys E3000 - http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/linksys/E3000

I pay for 25/5. It is worth noting that a lot of Comcast users have "PowerBoost" which makes sites like speedtest.net unable to determine sustained download speeds. I also think I'm pretty low priority on my node because I keep blowing past my 250GB per month limit

I download a lot of movies and TV shows.

I just realized my connection is physically limited... the wired network is only 100 Mbps instead of 1 Gbps. Too bad.

I tested it out and almost all of the servers were faster than my local one. Doubt that means much and the variance wasn't that large. As for router, it's whatever one came from Verizon with their FioS package. I have the quantum but my wifi reception could be better as I am up a floor and a room away from the router.

Sigh, I remember when 2400 baud was state-of-the-art.

And there was a commercial, around 1993 or so, about a family who had just upgraded to a 28.8K baud modem and the poor slob next door was still stuck in the dark ages at 14.4K.

I remember saving up all my minimum wage money and eventually walking out of the computer store with a fancy new 56k modem for only $250. Blazing fast speeds! Gemstone never ran so well, or would have, had it not been for the thousands of players bogging down the simu end...

When you upgraded did they send a new router? I signed up but have not seen an increase. Yet.

No. I signed up on their website and I had to verify I made the request via email.. and it was instantly faster.
