I have 256 of RAM but my PC keeps thinking its 128. What can I do to get my PC to detect the correct amount?

before I head off..

I've had that before, and I know my way around a computer really well. It is possible that the ram is merely defective, and nothing to do with your computer.

Or you could have mis-installed it :P

do you have any unfilled ram ports? some computers need specific ones filled first for the others to be recognized.

I'm going to have to remember that line next time I talk to a hot computer nerd-chick.

If you more than one stick of RAM installed, open the case, remove them all and test each one individually. One of them apparently is bad.

If it's only one stick, then you got RAM served.

Ya I took it out and reinstalled it several times. Think its defective. Damn this sucks... Bought it off tigerdirect in a package deal with the motherboard, video card and some other goodies....heh. Thanks going to have to return it.

Also some machines need the larger chip to be first. Although in this instance it looks like both are the same.
