How often do you wash and shampoo your hair?

I was reading a magazine and Jessica Simpson says she washes her hair every 3 days, and I was like.. huh? I asked people, especially the women at work on how often they wash their hair.. majority washed their hair every other day.. some once a week. When I was young, I was told to do that, but I never listened and washed it everyday.. shampoo.. and conditioner. Not to mention I shower twice a day, in the morning and when I get home. My routine ever since I can remember.. is that bad?

I really really hate oily hair. My hair is really long right now, and I'm scared NOT to wash it. :(

I have dry hair, so washing it every day really dries it out regardless of which kind of shampoo I use. So I wash it every 2 or 3 days, depending on my activity.

I wash mine every day, with shampoo and conditioner. Mostly because I put gel in it, though, and there's no way I'm going to sleep with that crap in my hair.

I was told washing it everyday with shampoo will make your hair fall out, and make it thin.

I wash my hair every day, sometimes twice a day, with pert shampoo and condition 2 in 1.

My hair is pretty thick, and doesn't seem to be falling out yet.

My hair is strong and firmly in my head.

Doesn't your hair start falling out when you're around 25ish 28? especially for men?

I'll tell you in 9-12 years.

My hair is very thin and tends to fall out a bit. I think I may be dying. "It's not a tumah!" :weird:

I have really thick hair which I keep moisturized since it gets dry, especially in the winter. Every 3-4 days for me.

I shampoo and condition my hair every day. I also tend to switch which shampoo and conditioner I use every week or so that way I don't get deposits or residue from one specific brand. They tend to wash one another out.

^ what he said. One a day, twice a day if I'm doing yardwork or something that gets me sweaty. My hair isn't as thick as it used to be in the front though :(

Every other day for me. I have thick, baby-fine hair and it tends to be a bit dry. Daily would be too often, I think. ;)

I don't understand not washing every day. I'd rather have my hair fall out than walk around with filthy hair.

I wash my hair every day, if it wasn't obvious.

CrystalTears

What makes you think hair is automatically filthy the following day? :bleh:

I realize it's possible that some people aren't exactly like me, but I know everyone in my family shampoos every day, so :bleh: right back atcha.

I wash and condition twice a week, or I tend to get split ends.

I've always been told by stylists that washing your hair every day leaves too much residue and strips more natural oils from your hair.

well, i keep my head nice and clean shaven, but still use shampoo on ma head every time i shower, so mostly i guess i wash my hair (scalp) once sometimes more a day.

Ussually every other day or so depending on exercise or warmer conditions and associated levels of perspiration that follows.

Shalla, how do you find the time? My hair is pretty long if not quite I don't think as long as yours and twice a day would be just a huge chunk of time to wash and dry it all.

MPSorc

shave it all off, easier clean up, much faster drying time

The time issue is probably the only thing keeping me from washing my hair twice a day. I'm contemplating shaving it off, though, especially if I start losing it.

I wash and condition every day too. Mostly because I use a lot of styling products. ;) Even if I didn't use junk to style, my hair would be an afro when I woke up if I didn't wash it daily.

Skirmisher
06-11-2004, 05:39 PM
Yeah...I don't need alot of products really..its long so its normally just pinned or swept back..sometimes braided...whatever i'm in the mood and/or have time for.

Thats funny snap.. cause it would be just the opposite for me. I would have a huge ass fro if I washed mine everyday. Paul Mitchell works wonders for me.

I shower when I get home from work, and when I wake up. I shave my head every 3 weeks so it's usually low maintenance. Shampoo in the morning, just rinse at night. I could probably get away with having to do more than rinse my hair a few times a week after a fresh cut.

Every other day for the most part...but activity, heat and humidity play a role.

I have thick hair...and a ton of it. It's also very dry (thank you 80's for the fad of crimping irons, curling irons, teasing to the point of looking like you have an azalea bush growing on your head and using a can of Aqua Net a day) ...so, I go through great lengths to keep my hair moisturized.

I gotta wash mine daily otherwise I feel really, really greasy. I rarely use conditioner since it weighs my hair down and I HAVE to wash it the following day, or it looks/feels like I haven't showered in a week.

Yes, washing daily does strip your hair of its natural oils. If you want to help prevent that, and use keep your hair and scalp in a healthier condition I'd suggest using a natural bristle brush and brush it thoroughly, making sure to get all the way down to the scalp. This increases the blood flow amd helps spread the oils through your hair better. Hey, I actually did learn something is cosmotology school.

I have to wash it every day. I literally cannot function in a productive manner without clean hair and a shower.

Lanza shampoo + conditioner for dry and damaged hair = once a day
Lanza cleansing shampoo for product buildup = once a week
VO5 deep condition = once every three days

You're a boy. It's allowed. Though I make Jake use Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner.

Every day, wash and condition... but that's it, I don't usually brush it. (My hair is gifted.)

There are many factors involved in this question about washing hair and how often. Currently, there at least has to be water run through it on a daily basis.

I used to wash my hair every day untill it started falling out. I had chemical straightening treatment and it totally fucked up my hair, along with the years of hair dye and hot iron styling. My hairdresser told me I had to basically wash it as little as possible for a few months and let it grow out and repair itself. I put up with it since I prefered that to the prospect of being bald. Luckily my hair is back to its ok condition and I wash it maybe 2-3 times a week and never ever use a dryer on it. Still straighten it though. :(

I have very dry naturally curly hair so it doesnt get that greasy, washing it everyday would be hair suicide for sure.

When my hair was shoulder length, I washed it every other day.

But I got it all chopped off (well, to me it feels like that) yesterday, so now I might go every day again. To me, it was an economics thing - less hair = less shampoo = more washing per week.

Hee..yup. And the irony of it all is...the crimped style basically made your hair look dry and kinky...and that was the style <stare>

I usually wash my hair every other day. I have very thick, very insane amount of hair. Usually in the summer I have it thinned every month just so its not so damnably hot. I haven't done it yet because I've been driving with the top down and the wind takes care of the mass amounts of persperation that usually collects on the back of my neck. (Nice, huh?)

Sometimes though I actually have some really good hair days when I wake up and pile it ontop of my head while I shower because it really doesn't need washing.

I change shampoos usually when I run out of what I'm using..I'm a huge fan of Bed Head but right now I'm using Paul Mitchell.

DUDE...someone said they had curly hair. Can't you just jump out of the shower, put in some frizz control shit, scrunch and go? I mean how quick and easy is that?

I'm with Jes. I wash & condition it everyday, or every other day. Depending on my activity. Sometimes twice a day if I'm doing stuff that deals with sweating and dirt. Don't forget deep conditioning though ladies! I do that every other day too, lolz.

Im in the same boat as Latrin. My hair is about 8-10 inches long and I feel dirty if I dont wash it every day. If i am too lazy to wash it i just push back the hair and throw on a hat.

Guys shouldn't have long hair. :P

I saw a pic of this kid in his skate boarder days, his hurr was long. I told him I'm so glad he chopped it. But he never gave up boarding

I dont skateboard, although many of my friends do. I do surf and snowboard though, which are two similar lifestyles as the skateboarding. I just like the feel of the long hair under my lacrosse helmet and sticking out from under my beanie.

Snowboarding, skateboarding, surfing, wakeboarding...the same to me. Just on different terrains. But, I didn't say you had to be be a boarder to have long hair. Well...some men can carry long or semi-long hair very well. Like, hmmm...Johnny Depp. He looks hot with semi-long hair.

No sleep. If you ask anybody I know in person.. They would comment, of course in a frustrating manner that I take forever to get ready for the day. I take about 2 hours to get ready for work. At night, I simply can't sleep if I don't shower.. unless I'm exhausted. I'm obsessed with hygiene.
