I am curious. I have a new rogue and I do not plan on learning any armor until I after I get 407.
When is it needed?

Personally, I'd start Armor training at 0, and work spells into the plan. A rogue is a square first and foremost. It's just a bonus to have a few spells.

A rogue needs armor from Level 0 on. Spells are secondary, but you cannot survive without armor.
EDIT: Mind you, this is an opinion of mine. I'm not up on current game mechanics by a long shot. I haven't even hunted in GS4 because I cancelled my account, and even if I was hunting...my gear is far from standard

It depends on what you do. If you don't plan on being hit (easy enough in the first 30 lvls) then armor isn't that big of a deal and you can do fine in double leathers. Just understand that you have to be picky in your fights and taking on swarms isn't a good idea. Also know that if you do get hit it's going to hurt, alot. But after 30 you should be in brig at least.
That's just my opinion on it, my rogue is 28 and in brig, he doesn't get hit alot and it's only swarms that kill him.

Brigandine is fine.

My bard has been in brig since he was 25.. I find that if you want to take any hits, brig is a minimum. So either keep your rogue really spelled up, or start with armor at the beginning.

In all my previous rogues I hated to leave brig it was my mainstay ... for some reason the thought of stealthy strikes from the shadows in a full suit of plate never sounded so ... right.

I doubled armor until 20 to get into brig with a minimum of hinderance. At 39, when I get a bunch of points back, I'll grab the last 5 ranks.
My vote is on armor 1x from your very first train until you get to 40 ranks. Its hard not to push the envelope when hunting a rogue because they hunt/overhunt so well. Having the armor ranks and wearing the armor will only prolongue your living status and enable a more consistent rate of experience absorption.
I have to agree with Anticor. You need to at least be in brig at 30. Up till then just pick your hunting grounds carefully. Also fallenSaint made a good point if your worried about your RP as well. Brig seems the highest that one could quietly move. My rogue is 25 and in imflass hauberk. You gotta love that light weight.

Unfortunately for you, you'll have to get brig if you want to hide once the stealth changes roll in.

Aw, man, don't listen to them.
Rogues don't need armor at all.
(Unless they hunt.)

State of Elanthia, most recently. Somewhere on the official boards or site before that.

Makes sense though, you shouldn't be slipping into hiding to easily wearing a suit of metal or anything extremely rigid.
And you don't need that much armor 0-30 you can make it on double leathers (8 ranks) just get to brig by 35-40ish because that's when I noticed the hits actually hurt.

So says the wizard. :rolleye:
Get into brig as fast as you can. You will pay the expense for doubling early.. but with the new way TPs are worked.. you'll end up getting the benefit back.
Unless you are planning on going hunting spelled to the gills every hunt..

My rogue is trained for brig at lvl 28. He doesn't need it though.
I can count on my hands the number of times I've been hit with him from lvl 0-28. I'm just a very methodical hunter when I'm using the rogue though.
