Just do it whenever, if you keep missing, aim lower or don't aim at all. You're 2x in ambush? Mind posting your training?

Level 25ish. Start with a leg/head combo.

^ that. + I found a sighted bow really, really makes a big difference. Even just decent sighting.

Until my ranger was somewhere between level 25-30, I was having to leg or prone the target first to get any chance of an eye shot. Eye shots don't seem to become truly consistent until around level 60 in my experience.

Unless you have a sighted bow: As mentioned, sighted bows increase consistency with lower level characters more. Use one now if at all possible.

Good to know because I'm at 49 and still not landing the eye shots with much consistency. :(

How much do Sighted bows usually go for?

speaking of aiming.. If my rogue is 2x in ambush/perception/ranged.. and he's 41. he's got 84 ranks in all of those.. To open aim, should I drop ambushing?

You could. It'd have no effect on your aiming, but ambush does add to AS. At your current training, it's giving you 11 AS.
