From the official boards...

I wasn't getting my hopes up about stonefist simply because of how disappointed I was by sandstorm. However this little tidbit actually got my giddy since my wizard does train in earth lore.

Its like my wizard can garrotte back now. Heehee.

A quick (and vague) summary of how Stone Fist will work:

You'll cast the spell at a creature, and there will be a warding roll. Failure of the warding roll will result in the fist grabbing the target, "rooting" it in place.

No damage will be done on the initial cast.

Once this is done, you will be able to use a number of hand gestures (punch, slap, etc), and each will invoke a different action from the fist. These actions will require additional warding rolls, as well as more mana. And each will have a different level of leathlity as well as difficulty. To consistantly use the more lethal actions, one will need a good bit of earth lore training (but if you fail, it merely drops down to a less lethal action).

A quick (and vague) description of the rooted state:

Basically, rooted implies a partial immobility affecting whatever extremity is responsible for movement. In humans, it's the legs.

Arms are still usable, so casting (and basically any other action that does not require explicite use of the legs) will be allowed.

Some spells may see decreased effectiveness while the caster is rooted, but I suspect all will still be castable.

Hope that answers some questions, and clarifies for those who were not able to attend SimuCon.

kinda a fun idea...i wonder how it'll actually work though, and when do we plan on seeing this?

If it's anything like Illoke fist, I demand that squares get the CM move Instadeath.

No, they were pretty clear on that. Wizard stonefist isn't going to be anything like the instant-murder-death-kill that the Illoke use.

With enough lore training who knows how effective it might become, but it'll still require some effort to double-ward a target and mana.
