Last time I really hunted this rogue was back near '94. I tried once or twice at the beginning of this year and did ok in the GY vs. wights and spiders and what have you.

Can some people help me out and let me know if this build will even work?

It seems to me I need to drop at least one weapon class and use the points elsewhere. Any thoughts?

Oh, he left Voln and just started GoS. No spells.

drop brawl and thrown and add the point to moc and maybe a little more dodge. you will also eventually need more climbing and HP

You could survive with the build just like that if you really wanted to. Although, that many weapon skills is probably a waste.

Free points into climb/swim to get around. You may want to consider higher armor AsGs but it isn't necessary if you're willing to be patient/careful.

Yeah, having all those weapon skills is going to hurt you, when you could be training more CM, more PF, more dodge, or more armor.

Yeah, I think I tried to do a little too much. If thrown weapons are a viable hunting method, I'd like to keep it as I don't have a character that specializes in it. Maybe brawling and thrown and TWC.

If thrown is still lame (as it was last time I played this character), then maybe just brawling and TWC while trying to triple dodge at the same time.

I have Tsoran's old spreadsheet for training. Is it still good? Or is there a new improved variety somewhere else?

(edit: I didn't last use this rogue in '94, as the original post said, but '04...)

Tsoran's spreadsheet still works I think but I found now that you have intra-level training points and your TPs automatically reallocate and stuff I don't think it's really necessary. All you need is a plan like 2x dodge, 2x brawl etc. for all the skills you need and just train in them as the points become available. You don't really need to plan in advance anymore.

I've never done thrown but from what I've heard it's only viable if you have some really sick item like a bandolier or returner; otherwise it's not that effective

A late reply, I know. But I've decided to at least attempt throwing with brawling and TWC. Or edged and throwing. I'm having trouble deciding because I have some cool 'edged' weapons, but nothing really great on the brawling side.

It would be REALLY nice to have a bandolier of return. I have a bandolier or two, but I've never tried to find out if there was anything special about them because I used to throw 2 e-bladed handaxes and then engage in melee. What used to irk me so much was that occasionally a critter would pick up one of the handaxes and use it against me.

I have a couple of stilettos that are quite nice, but I never considered them throwing weapons. I would hate to lose one throwing them anyhow.

I just checked the char in question, and he used to be Voln, and I think that's why he trained in brawling. Now, though, he is GoS at rank 1. I don't remember doing that, but I still have my 1 free society change, so I think, in light of that, I'll drop brawling and go with edged, thrown, and TWC.

I'll try to integrate throwing in to this char's hunting strategy and see how it goes. I'm not sure whether having a TWC ambushing rogue is a waste of training points or not. I know it has it's uses as far as throwing, but maybe the TWC points would be better placed to triple dodge and hiding. That way I could snipe (with a handaxe) and then ambush with a weapon.

I guess I'll see how it works out. I already have a standard rogue that triples dodge and uses a sword and board, as well as doubling picking skills and having 401 to 407 for added help on that front.

That makes this rogue something of an experiment. I'll mess around a bit until fixskills comes along. Hopefully by then I will know for sure what I want to do with him.

Just sayin', though, that I really want a rogue that uses throwing to it's max capabilities. I just hope those max capabilities are worth it.

Thanks for the advice. Any more would be helpful as well, even if I don't get to replying for a week or so. :-(

Old skills.

(at level 20), your current skill bonuses and ranks (including all modifiers) are:

Survival...........................| 50 10
Stalking and Hiding................| 144 44
Perception.........................| 144 44
Climbing...........................| 20 4
First Aid..........................| 50 10
Training Points: 23 Phy 15 Mnt

New skill goals.

Dropped survival and 1st aid completely (for now).
Dropped brawling completely
Dropped Harness Power completely

Tripling dodge to max at 66 ranks
Gaining 5 ranks of MOC
Gaining ranks in Stalk/Hide from 44 to 60 ranks (eventually will triple completely)
Gaining Perception from 44 to 47 ranks (planning on full triple)
Gaining 1 rank in Climbing (will get as much as possible, as well as swimming, mostly for eventual redux, with any points left over)
Gained 1 rank in throwing to top it off.

I'll probably have to juggle some of these skills until my stat growth makes it possible to complete the above goals.

Would like to double CM, but the cost is prohibitive. By the time fixskills come around, I should know what goals I want to set, what skills I don't need as much as I thought, etc.

- You'll want some HP if you're in GoS
- You should probably 2x CM before you 3x hide
- 3x perception is usually excessive
- Climb has nothing to do with redux
- 3x dodge is a good end-game goal (2x earlier on leaves a lot more points for initial tertiary skills, armor training, and could open up 2x PF for you)
