Tim Tebow!

Latrinsorm
11-18-2011, 12:17 AM
Tonight's game puts Tebow at exactly 56 completions and 56 carries on the year. Not even Vick ever had more carries than completions in a given year, I wonder if any NFL QB has?

Latrinsorm
11-18-2011, 12:37 AM
So I decided to just look it up myself. Short answer is yes, with some notables:

1937 Slingin' Sammy Baugh, -5 (81 completions, 86 carries), Hall of Famer.

1939 Davey O'Brien, -9 (99 completions, 108 carries). Tebow received the Davey O'Brien award in 2007.

1939 Ace Parker, -32 (72 completions, 104 carries), who played for the Brooklyn Dodgers, the New York Yankees, and in Major League Baseball on the Philadelphia Athletics. Had less completions than carries every year of his career. Hall of Famer.

1972 Bobby Douglass, -66 (75 completions, 141 carries), largest margin since the war.

5-1 under Tebow and now possibly tied or 1GB from Oakland, depending on this weekend. If Denver makes the playoffs, the ESPN coverage of Tebow might make even me grow tired of him.

4 - 1 ... or 4 - 1.5 if you count the SD game that he replaced Orton in after the half.

Impressive still when you consider 35% of his total yardage is rushing and his combined average yardage after 5.5 games is 200 per.

Then again, the toughest opponent he has had to face would be Detroit ... the rest have been mediocre to pitiful.

The rest of their schedule is pretty much the same with the exception of Chicago and NE. Given the division, they'll probably make the post season ... don't see them making much of it though.

As much as it sucks to say I still think the Jets are making the playoffs. They will beat Buffalo at home next week and then own the tiebreaker over them. Cincinnati will be proven as a pretender with three more games vs. BAL and PIT. Only one team each coming out of the South and West. Playoffs will be just like last year except HOU or TEN will replace IND and someone new will win the west - I still think it will be SD. Look at their December records under Rivers.

Not that it really matters because GB will run away with the Super Bowl unless Suh concusses him on Thanksgiving (which I actually give about a 30% chance given what happened last year when they played, plus Detroit's generally thuggish attitude of late)

He may not do it pretty, but he gets it done.31st in the league in passing yards... scoring a whopping 20 points per game since Tebow became the starter (includes a special teams TD, a defense TD, and 5 FGs)... yes, it makes perfect sense to credit Tim Tebow with Bronco wins.

Sabermetrics plz.

He's had two or three last minute drives to win the game. Without him, I don't think they would have won those.

I think that's speculative at best. Orton, IMO, is still the better QB of the two. Don't get me wrong ... Orton has a laundry list of issues, namely being able to put up 300+ yards a game, but unable to get past the 1 yard line and into the end zone.

Tebow has some electricity to him ... Orton is a wet towel. I don't think Orton could motivate someone with diarrhea to shit.

I'm not going to assume that Denver would have lost the 4 games they won with Tebow starting had Orton been the starter.

Denver doesn't really have a running game ... that is evident with last nights game with Tebow being THE top rusher. Yet Orton, despite sitting out the last three games of 2010 ... was still in the top 10 (#10) in passing yards.

Just as Orton isn't completely at fault for losing so many games ... Tebow doesn't get credit for winning so many games. They would have lost last night, despite the Tebow rushing TD, had Sanchez not thrown a pick that was ran in for a TD ... or had the Jets not missed 2/3 of their FG attempts.

DoctorUnne

Normally I'm a stats person too but the rest of the team clearly plays harder for Tebow and football is a lot about emotion and will. That doesn't show up in Tebow's stats but it's worth a lot.

Look at what Von Miller says about it and he was a beast Thursday night

Denver is 4th overall with 154.9 rushing ypg. McGahee (who played hurt Thursday) is 12th in the league with 640 rushing yards- 5.0 per carry. Moreno is on IR. That left the 3rd string running back and a practice squad fill in against the Jet's big run package.

I think it's also worth mentioning that Tebow doesn't turn the ball over. When you play for John Fox, and all the talent is on the defensive side of the ball.. 2 turnovers in 5.5 games is pretty fucking good. Both in the Detroit loss. For a guy who can't throw the ball.. only 1 interception in 125 pass attempts.

Denver does not have much of a running game ... that they're ranked 4th is only a product of playing more than half of their games against teams that give up the most yards defensively.

The Broncos were still able to rush the ball against teams that have given up the fewest rushing yards defensively;

Bengals; Ranked 3rd vs run. Average 88.6 yds/game. Denver rushed for 130.
Packers; Ranked 12th vs run. Average 102.5 yds/game. Denver rushed for 119.
Dolphins; Ranked 7th vs run. Average 98.7 yds/game. Denver rushed for 176.

I doubt the Favre rumor.

Last season I would have said ... about time. This season I fully agree with you. Cutler is actually playing like a competent QB. Let's hope Hanie is up to it.
