Rogue Guild based MHO

So, I've been kind of tossing this idea around for a while now, and after talking to various people, it sounds like most people are interested in it.

Basically, what I want to do, is start a MHO that is based around the rogue guild. What this means, is not only RP based around the guild, but that one of its greater focuses will be promoting the guild, and drawing more people into it.

RP wise, the MHO will try to flesh out the role of the underlying organization of the guild. To put it simply, it would be an organized crime gang, since that's basically what the rogue guild is a cover for (As is made very clear if you explore the guild, and see all the smuggling, the many "acquired" valuables, the beatings of non-guild members in the gaming hall, etc..).

Needless to say, it will be based around the Landing guild, but certainly does not have to only be focused on it. Also, it will not be a rogue only MHO, since the organized crime aspects might very well draw in non-rogues, as well.

But as far as giving to the community, it will mostly be through helping with various guild aspects (training sessions, guild based RP, etc.), and through filling a more villainous type roll (though you don't exactly have to play such a role, to join, since you could simply feign ignorance and take part in the "cover" of the organization.).

As for roles outside of the guild, I'm very much open to ideas from people! A few ideas so far, are having organized stealing, various types of gambling, including pit fighting events with betting, and RPed muggings and kidnappings (already had a few people volunteer for this type of stuff.).

Ultimately, this is something that I can't really do on my own, and so what I really need is a few core people to really help out with it. In fact, I know this isn't the forum for MHO's, but I wanted to see what kind of support I can get from guild members, first and foremost.

I'm interested in joining one of these. (Would be my first MHO.) Like I said on the boards, it'd be awesome to try and tie lockpicking into this.. I always thought a locksmith guild MHO would be cool, but I never had the time to start one.

Also, you have to do monthly events right? What sort of events would a MHO like this throw?

This sounds like a very cool idea for something that has been around for a long while (the rogue's guild) which is chock full of awesome RP intensive stuff. But first I need to get my dues paid and reinstated...ughhhh

Well, we certainly got a great turnout of hot girls (no joke!), but I was hoping more people could make it. Because of the poor turnout, we decided to have another meeting at the same time, on Monday.

We still had a pretty good discussion, nonetheless, and I'll give a brief overview of a few things we talked about.

Of course, the topic that was at the forefront, for me, was the guild, and we started off by discussing what can be done to promote it.

Then we moved to the organized crime aspects of the guild, and the different facets that it can entail. Honestly there's so many things we can do with this, I really don't see how we could have any trouble running events.

We also talked about the organization of the MHO a little bit, though we didn't come to any definite decisions on leadership structure, since we decided to wait wait until Monday for that.

So, hopefully more people can make it Monday! 9 PM, EST, Frith's Inn table.

I sent in an application yesterday. If Kenstrom approves, we already have plans for our first event and such.

Just got a new job and of course Murphy's law instantly kicked in since then, so I've had absolutely no time to play.

I have been keeping on top of my emails, though, and I never received anything back from Kenstrom about the MHO, so I'm not too sure what the deal is. I assume it doesn't normally take this long, so I will probably have to bug him about it.

Midgar has totally disappeared aside from one night about a month ago, so I'd say it's safe to assume this is dead or on hold for the foreseeable future.

Is there still interest in this? If so I'll gladly pick it up where Midgar left off in terms of curiosity and interest.

Initially I made a Tehir based MHO but life got crazy outside of the game and I put a halt to it, so as far as technical things go I'm pretty versed in what needs to get done for this to happen. So if I were to start back up an MHO, perhaps this one instead would be more fruitful in comparison to my other.

I can flesh out more details further if there is enough interest and add a bit more twists to the initial idea but with similarities as well.

A Google Group has been set up, and the application has been submitted to Reidyn.

I'll wait on approval first before going any further with things but quite a bit has been drawn up in addition from things already mentioned here in this thread from before.

I'm sorry to necro this post, and I'm even more sorry that RL forced me to have to quit the game so suddenly, and not allowing me to see this through, before.

It's awesome to hear that others were willing to take up the reins on this! How did things end up going?

Starting a MHO like this has always been a goal of mine. Kenstrom never gave me approval, or even replied to me, but maybe he was just too busy back then.

I'd love to give this another go, if there is enough support!

I made the trip to Couple's Retreat.....I mean Teras, to hunt Nelemar a little. But it's only a matter of time before I get bored and come back.

I'd love to schedule a time to meet at Frith's Inn, or maybe even on Teras if that's what people prefer. Also, you can always send me an IM at Erwinwhitetiger, if you want to chat about things, or just to let me know you are interested.

I really would love to get this thing going again, since it's about damn time people start dealing with more theft these days! Haha.

Once I can establish the MHO, I think it will be even easier to get people to join. What rogue wouldn't want to be part of an organized crime gang? I don't even train in stealing, and I want to!! (Granted, I probably will train in it, if we get this thing started.).

But joining the MHO will not just be for thieves. There's tons of things anyone, of any class, could gain from being a part of it. Hell, simply wearing the Black Hand pin, would serve as a protection from getting stolen from :D

I will re-create our forums, but we'll also eventually get our own on the officials, if all goes well. If the application is accepted, then I'll start inviting everyone that is interested.

There's just not a large enough player-base to be too picky about who joins. But if anyone ends up being an unwanted member, they'll be ejected (and probably face some good old fashioned mobster beatdown.).

You definitely cannot be choosey about who joins an MHO. Outof 500 logged on at prime(max) and half of those likely being MA(at the least) that leaves 250 players. Out of that how many are playing a rogue as their main? Because you want mains in your MHO.

Well, keep in mind, it is NOT rogues only. I encourage all classes to join, as there's something for everyone.

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to say thank you for everyone showing up in Icemule last night. It was a lot of fun. I also wanted to let those of you who I have met at meetings know that I have resigned from the organization. It has been brought to my attention that in order to have a say or be forthcoming in ideas about what the organization does, I would have to invest a certain amount of time in it. While I definitely think that is reasonable, I just don't feel I have the appropriate amount of spare time to invest and it's too hard for me to keep my mouth shut when I have an opinion. ;) That being said I don't think the MHO is the right fit for me at this time. I enjoyed meeting you all and look forward to attending your events. I wish you all the best of luck in building this into a successful organization.
