Great...NOW what am I supposed to do on a date?!

Stupid spanking police...guess I can still put her over my knee and speak sternly to her, but THAT doesn't seem as gratifying to anyone.

Look at this...http://gawker.com/5855478/reddit-video-apparently-shows-texas-family-judge-beating-disabled-daughter

If this isn't enough to support a nationwide ban on spanking, then I don't know what is!

This too...The Ugly Sounds of an Actual Spanking..http://cdugan0.tripod.com/Report_Card.html

Depends on your definition of spanking.

To me, that's not spanking; that's a straight up beating with a belt.
I'd love to see a grown man smack that guy across the face with a spiked belt.

For the record, I do not spank my kid at all. If she did something dangerous, harmed another person, stole, etc, I may smack her hand or something, and I've told her that. Fortunately, I have not had to. I rule and command discipline with love, communication, punishment and a stern voice.

My vote: Not sure

I think spanking isn't a bad thing. The guy in the video obviously went overboard. I've had a lot of friends who have been beaten as children, hell, my own mom and her sisters for that matter, but there's a difference between discipline and giving a kid a fucking beating.

I spank my children. I grew up where if you did something wrong you got your ass whooped, usually with a 3 inch leather work belt. While it felt excessive as a kid, looking back I know it wasn't. I deserved the vast majority of those spankings. I spank my children but never with anything other than my open hand, and immediately after I do it, my kids are in my arms and I am explaining why I had to spank them.

Kids need to understand there are consequences for those actions and they need to have a respect for those consequences. My kids don't really react to anything else. You can take their toys away and they don't care. You can put them in time out and 10 seconds after they get out they're right back at it. But when I get to the point where I spank them, they usually learn their lesson.

You think kids these days are worthless? It's because so many kids these days don't know what it's like to respect consequences, possibly even fear them. They know mommy and daddy will be right there, backing them up no matter how wrong they are. After all, that's their little snowflake, right? I know most of my peers are worthless, and I'm 26. What I see coming from future generations seems like it's going to be a lot worse, but only time will tell.

This.

A stern voice works wonders. Specially if it's a few decibels louder than the normal conversation.. not yelling, but ya know, loud enough to mean some fucking business.

Then again, I got a man voice.

I'm with Blazar. My kids didn't care one bit about time out, taking away toys, etc. Time outs they knew would eventually end and they could go back to playing, so they didn't care. Take away toys? Ha. My son actually told me when he was three and I threatened to throw away the few toys he had in the car with him that he didn't care, he had more at home. Spanking worked when nothing else did. And there's a big difference between a spanking and going overboard and beating your child.

Just use the threat of extreme ultra violence. Graphically explain to them things about needles and eyes and waiting for them to sleep etc. etc.
No bruises, no blame.
Win, win.

I'm with you on the voice thing. My son acts completely differently with me than my wife. With her hes a mischievous little brat and does not listen to a word she says. If i tell him something in a command voice its almost instant compliance.

I have had to spank him once in regards to power outlets, since then, he avoids them like the plague.

Well see how things go when he is older though.

I feel sorry for both of you if decibel and pitch are what's keeping your children in check (ho ha).

Whispering and even silence work as well as yelling if you do it right. L2instill fear!! FEAR I SAY!

You shouldn't have to resort to such barbaric violence with a toddler. Surely you can sit him down and explain what electricity is, how it works, what grounding means and how many joules it takes to stop the human heart. Oh, and you'll also need to review the Greys Anatomy chapter on electrical heart function.

After being surrounded by all that knowlege and reasoning you should be able to leave him in an empty room full of electrical outlets and a keyring full of keys and have no worries. I bet you could even include an extention cord, a small toaster oven and a small wading pool full of water and still have peace of mind.

Here is a facebook gangster getting his ass beat by his uncle. I would say the youth in question won't ever try to associate himself with gangs again.

I don't believe children should be hit. But I also don't think we need to make a law out of it.

We should have laws against hitting, spanking isn't hitting.

That's one of the problems with kids these days. They don't get enough whoopings!
