Yean, been a while. Don't even remember how to get around the Landing. Would like to roll up a Voln Fu'ing halfling rogue. That still possible? Advisable? Voln still around? Any advice on how to do it? I'd like to pump as much in to locksmithing as possible. Seriously, I've forgotten just about everything I've ever known about this game so it's going to be a pretty steep learning curve for me, any help would be appreciated.

thanks!

Were monks in the development stage back then?

Welcome back and enjoy it. It took me about 3 months to get back into the groove. If you need help and see Zermon, Dithio or Methous around, I will do whatever. Just ask!

As for Voln, I wouldnt wish that on anyone. Look into the new Guardians of Sunfist society. I am not a halfling player, so i cannot offer insight into that aspect.

Whatever you do, just max out your stats and skills for open fighting with a claidhmore. Before your 30 days is up, then you fix skill into real stats and a training path. You should be able to make close to 20th level in a month before you have to fixskill out of it. I will give you 20k seed money if you give me a tap on the shoulder.

there is a downloadable program LICH here on the PC that will make your life immensely easier, if you want to try it.

For those people who who want the old Tsoran maps or are familiar with them they can be found here:

http://www.gsopensource.com/tsoran/index.html

Just got that site up and working on google app engine so the load times and downloads should be much faster. It also means when I fuck around with my own sites people don't lose access.

This is very helpful, thanks. I'm getting lich installed and figuring out the basics. As for my halfling rogue, I'm not sold on voln fu i just want to pump as much into locksmithing as I possibly can while still being able to kick some ass. I remember my old halfling was pretty good at it being fully trained. Are there any (somewhat current) guides I can be looking at for this sort of path (locksmithing especially). Should I just go for an ambusher instead?

Well, as soon as monks come out, Voln Fu will be going bye bye, and will be replaced by the Unarmed Combat System, which may very well no longer be beneficial to halflings like Fu was (but who knows?).

I think that's bad advice for a new/returning player, and I'm leaving it at that.

Almost all new characters choose the claid / max strength stats for the first 30 days. It's not bad advice, it's good advice. And at the very worst it's just advice but it's not bad advice.
You really make me laugh when it comes to completely denying this is a good idea.

I think he's just saying that he's got a lot of learning ahead of him and fucking around with an interim build will be a distraction. Which I kind of agree with.

Sword/board will work fine. Ranged would be the most effective but it's pretty annoying upkeep-wise so you may not want to deal with that right away. TP-wise you can skimp on CM and can probably only 1x ambush if you want. Read 'the art of the bow' if you're interested in ranged.

I'd suggest wither going for CoL right away or waiting a little while and then going Sunfist. There are some tough parts to Sunfist for a rogue but it's not too bad.

Almost all new characters are rolled and played by older, more experienced players. This isn't an older player, this is a new/returning player, and as was mentioned, going with a build for 30 days that's nothing like what the build will be after 30 days is a distraction to the learning curve that is the early levels of the game. I stick to my comment that the suggestion for a claidh for 30 days is a BAD idea, and STUPID to suggest to a new/returning player.

DaCapn said it about as well as it can be said.
