I don't care for enchanting anymore, and I want to turn him into a hunting machine. I really have NO clue how to play anymore, so I could really use some suggestions. he's a member of Voln and I'm considering CoL. I'd really prefer not to have to rely on anyone else to play him, so what works best? I know this thread is asking a lot, but there is a lot I don't know anymore as far as mechanics go - pure spell casting vs battle mage. his gear is incredibly basic and he's a dark elf. thanks in advance for any insight you might be able to offer.

The new runestaff update is pretty nice, but you may look at shield and brawl. I dont know if you will have the points, but that is what I do with my empath.

you are obviously going pure (which is the best IMHO), but you can probably kill off your air lore for more points elsewhere. Immolation builds are really nice, but the fire lore for it is something you can fixskill into later at a higher level.

so is this build typical for immolation style hunting? is this style effective against certain mobs? are there utility spells I need to use with it?

in regards to the brawling + shield use, do I need to max brawling or just get a few ranks?

also, anyone experienced with battle-mage style play able able to offer some insight as far as what skills are important, as well as some input on what skill attack combinations I should be utilizing.

I also have a paladin and rogue on another account I could use as a hunting partner eventually - are either viable?

A warmage build would pick up full 1x CM and two handed weapons and keep some of your air lore (24 ranks) for the haste bonus, then start swinging a claid in 1 second, using 425 to boost the shit out of your AS. My utility spell was 909/quake, keeps them prone or standing up in offensive stance. While your AS wont be the highest, you'll be swinging a claid in 1 second at creatures who are prone, you will destroy them. Your strength is low so you will be losing some AS there as well, but honestly, you'd probably do really well in minos or skull temple.

Immo and pure builds are still great, but if you wanted to mix it up, I know its completely possible to cap a wizard with the warmage build, in shattered, I swung a claid from 0-100 and loved it, but ymmv.

Welcome back, and dont forget to check out Shattered if you like scripts!

because I don't have the money to invest in a decent weapon + armor combo, I'll probably stay pure for now.

I'm going to work on my skills to drop air lore to 24, and boost AS and MIU up to 2x. I think I should also look to boost perception and PF to 1x. From what I've read thru on other forums, bolting seems the way to go. What sort of spell list should I aim for? should I drop some from MjE for now and add to MnE to raise my elemental CS?

I should probably also drop Voln (although that saddens me) to pick up Wracking thru CoL. Unless there is another strategy for keeping up mana that I can work with?

You've got a funny way of setting up a wizard just to enchant.

I say this over and over but pure wizards are the most straight forward profession. You can't write more than a paragraph or two of training strategies before repeating yourself. If you've read the old threads, there really isn't anything new to tell you (except maybe "flaring runestaves").

You should seriously consider Guardians of Sunfist over CoL.

I have a wizard in CoL and I've wracked sometimes in the field but it's almost never required because of 516 (even while hunting creatures with lots of natural padding).

Your spell research training is pretty much optimized for a bolt wizard. Don't train MnE over 75, keep MjE at 1x. Dabble along in wizard base as you have been. There was a thread dedicated to talking about spell research at cap (titled something like "101/101/101"). Read that sometime in the next year before you cap.
