Yeah so like... I wanted to put black highlights/lowlights whatever in my hair and they fucking came out blue so my solution is just to dye all my hair black... I WILL POST PIX

So, if you dye your hair black, is there any other way to change it to another color without bleaching it first? (don't laugh... I'm serious) I am hair color impaired.

I've heard (only from Tijay and Ranger) that once you go black you never go back...

Yeah yeah, it sucked but I'm surprised I'm the first to post it!

I don't think so, it'll more take on a tint of the color you want.

If it's dye...you could theoretically wash it out, since it's only staining your hair. You probably wouldn't be able to do it in a day or even a week though.

Well... my daughter dyed her hair black several months ago. She can't stand the 'growing off' process, so she uses black henna on the roots. (cause henna will fade faster) It's still pretty black at the bottom. (so she matches it up with the henna) I think her hair is too fragile to bleach. Just thought someone here might know some tricks. She and I both want it back to her original color.

Vesi

P. S. She dyed it without asking me so we didn't get a chance to investigate first.

I have red hair and green eyes.

Anyhoo, use a filler on your hair Jenisi. Otherwise your whole head is going to come out blue.

Or do brown, wait 2 weeks, and then do black.

But once you go black, you won't be able to get it any other color without bleaching it.

I ain't never slept with a natural redhead with green eyes. One with blue eyes, one with hazel eyes. That count?

Shari

Oooo man, while I refuse to share my hair stories, let me suggest a few things.

Go with what Satira said. I'd try brown first and if that works out dye it black in another month or so. I know it seems a long time to wait but seeing as how your hair is blonde I'm sure its suffered a lot of chemical damage from you bleaching it. Adding more dyes so quickly (going from brown to black) could be devistating apon hair.

Load up with leave-in and deep moisterizing conditioners after doing all this, you're going to need it.

-Shari (who at times would have been better off shaving her head and starting over due to bad hair-dye jobs)

Drew
06-05-2004, 03:39 AM
Yeah, once it's black you can't make it more than a few shades lighter without stripping it. However; it is easier to go darker than it is to go lighter.

I have a hard time imagining going from blonde (which I am) to any other color.

-Drew, feeling slightly metrosexual now.

The fun thing about hair color is that it does fade. If you don't like the color wait a few days and it'll start to fade gradually. Black is hard to get out (almost as bad as red!), and in some cases you'd trash your hair before removing all the color. If you're dead set on coloring it all, use a semi permanent. It's less harsh and it fades faster.

As another option you might try mixing in other highlights, to make the dark seem less dramatic.

If your daughter is dead set on not wanting to grow her hair out, I have a couple of suggestions. The cosmotologist in me just had to answer.

Firstly, was her hair untreated before she colored it. Color on top of color over bleach, you get the idea, is a bad, bad thing. To remove the black there would be one of two options, either bleaching with a high percentage of peroxide or a color remover. Color remover is best used when the color is fresh though but I've used it over my hair and it worked great. I won't lie and bother are fairly damaging. If her hair is in okay shape to start with it shouldn't be much of a problem. But if it's in bad condition there might not be much else other than waiting for it to grow out, and cut off the most damage before attemting to fix. NEVER try and fix color problems at home. I've seen some nasty end results.

Once her hair is stripped of color (there isn't a way to remove color and poof have it back natural, bleach or the color remover takes everything out.) She's most likely have to have a color placed on top to get close to the natural shade. This process is also expensive, since it requires more than one service so be prepared to pay to get it fixed.

If you think her hair is too damaged, have the colorist do something called a strand test. Which is basically a process which uses a strand of hair to determine if it'll turn into mush under the various treatments. I'd also recommend going into a better quality salon, or possibly a school since color fixes can be tricky.

Anyway, I hope that helps!

Thanks for the suggestions.

She won't grow her hair out. She says it looks trashy having it two colors like that. She's really critical of herself no matter what. I don't think it would be so bad and summer would be the time to do that. Oh well...

I keep telling her she's going to have to go to a beauty shop. I don't think her hair is in *bad* condition, it's just really thin and she's worried about her losing hair/or making it thinner. The strip test sounds like a good idea. Going to call someone tomorrow and give that a try.

Thanks again...

If there's one bit of advice about hair, it's to let the professionals handle it.

It's worth the money to pay someone who knows what they're doing. I learned this lesson the hard way the time I turned my hair orange.

Hehe...I had black hair with orange roots once. It was not anywhere near Halloween.

Then...200 dollars later (165+tip) I walked out with orangish-brownish hair.

Stripping and re-dying box-dyed hair is the devil.

That is all.

Haha Skirmisher, photos! I'll tell you what happened.

My mother had wrangled me into agreeing to be blonde for my senior pictures. A week after the pictures were done, I decided I wanted to go back to my Claire Danes MSCL hair, so I dyed it a dark red. I wasn't happy with the outcome and figured the next day, "oh, I'll just bleach it again and re-dye it a blonde."

Ever tried to strip red out of hair? It's the hardest color to get rid of, supposedly. So I bleach it and it's BRIGHT ORANGE. Like, traffic cone orange. I had to go to work that night and didn't have time to fix it - I worked at the Dairy Queen at the time. Ben and Tanner called me "pumpkinhead" all night. I tried to cover it with brown for school the next day, which KIND of worked - it then turned into a more "burnt" orange.

My mother sent me to the salon the next day for an emergency fix. When all was said and done, I thought my hair was going to fall out and I'm probably lucky it didn't.

No pictures:P
