View Full Version : CLOK
I've picked up some great GMs who have been running excellent stories and events, and we have a small but dedicated playerbase, so now would be a great time to come check out our MUD.
http://clok.contrarium.net
For those with an evil bent, we accomodate villains (not to be confused with "stupid evil" people just out to kill and grief) over here, as can be evidenced by a sorcerer player character who has been banished from town, but now has accommodations with the resident sorcerer cult nearby. There has been some fun conflict and PvP between the good guys and the bad guys.
The population can be sparse to non-existent during the day. People tend to be around during the evening and often until the early morning wee hours.
Yes, the wiki is still lacking in information, but I've been working since last week to get more of the basics up there, now that we've got more GMs to handle the general workload.
Been checking this game out a bit here and there. It's come a long ways from Farn's other thread he started two years ago. Here's a few looks at rooms today.
In game these are automatically colorcoded so it looks even better.
[Stone Canyon, Highlands] (OutMtRk)
The trail twists sharply here heading up the mountainside. Sagebrush and weeds grow out from between the dry rocks and gravel.
The area is mostly quiet.
It is snowing.
The area is filled with a deep snow.
Also here: a large yellow-tusked boar (moderately wounded, exhausted), a large yellow-tusked boar and Gad (tired).
Obvious paths: northwest, north.
[Shadgard, Market Street] (market) (OutUr)
This open plaza is filled with townsfolk, some manning booths or stalls, all haggling with each other in an attempt to buy or sell commodities. A narrow alley winds between the General Store and a large warehouse on the south side of the street.
There is quite a crowd of people here. The area is very noisy.
You also notice a large sign. There are some homes here.
It is snowing.
The area is filled with a deep snow.
Also here: Beniah.
Obvious paths: west, northeast.
Pretty awesome to see how far this has progressed from the first 6 rooms of Shadgard to the little MUD it is now.

Stopped by to take a look today... it really is looking good. Props to Farn and the other GMs for their work.
Sorry about the recent downtime while the server was moved, but the server's connection is up and running smoothly again. To make up for lost time, all skillgains will receive +1 to the gain multiplier for the next week. This stacks with study/training/workshop and role-playing award (RPA) bonuses. So you could potentially be getting 4x skillgains (study/training/workshop + RPA + week-long bonus) over the next week.

Am I still banned for quoting Samuel Jackson from Pulp Fiction? Is cussing still a bannable offense?
You were kicked, not banned, so come on over (reasons for the kick already given in the other thread). Hmm, time for an optional filter. That should keep everyone happy.

SAY WHAT AGAIN, I DARE YOU!
The people who connect, /who, and disconnect without logging in are perhaps unaware that if everyone who has done that so far had just stayed connected and logged in, there'd be quite a crowd.

The following are a few of the updates that have happened since Farn last showed off his basic mining system. The crafting aspect of CLOK has come quite a long way since that time.
Mining - This now has dozens of resources and gems to find. Includes dangers from creatures, gas and cave ins! Different resources can be found in different mines throughout the world.
Recent additions: Player Created Mines (http://wiki.contrarium.net/index.php/Mining_Claim)!
Smelting - Turn your ore into bars of metal. Combine those into larger bars. Combine metal types into new types. Want to make bronze? Combine Copper and Tin. Pewter? Three parts tin to 1 part copper. Electrum? Combine gold and silver.
Blacksmithing - This is the most difficult crafting skill to master right now, but it comes with the greatest benefit with up to 15% damage reduction for armor, and 15% damage bonuses for weapons.
-- Create armor, weapons, shields, or commodities which can be sold for profit at the market.
Lapidary - Polish and cut the gemstones you find, for the potential to triple their worth. A difficult skill, but quite lucrative for those with the patience to practice it.
Skinning - Skin those animals you find and defeat in the wilds. Clean the skins to improve their quality.
Tanning - Turn those pelts into tanned furs, or leather.
Leathercrafting - The recent addition and still in rough draft form. Players are currently testing this and offering feedback and suggestions. This allows you to make leather armor, containers, clothing and footwear from the skins and leather you gather and create.
Logging - Chop down trees, take them to a sawmill and process them to increase profit. Different tree types can be found throughout the world.
Woodcarving - Carve bows, arrows via fletching, trinkets, toys, staves, or hilts and hafts to be used with blacksmithing.
Variant market prices - Is that copper bar not selling for what you think it should? Take it to a distant town where it sells for more!
Having trouble getting all this material around? Save up and buy a handcart, or better yet, a horse and wagon! Mounts allow you to hitch up to a wagon and haul your goods.
Another recent addition to mounts allows players to charge or trample an opponent from horseback! If your mount is war trained.
Edit: I forgot to mention Fishing/Farming/Cooking and more...

Yo. Just saw you had post a few times in the CLOK thread. Are you still around? If so, have you tried CLOK lately? Good stuff.

I did not in fact post in this thread, until now. I'm willing to bet a bunch of people who never posted here received that same PM. While I understand your desire to get people interested, please don't turn yourself into a spambot over it. Thx.

Out of respect for Farn, I'm not going to verbally eat you alive right now.

So there is. I stand corrected.
Out of respect for Farn, I'm not going to verbally eat you alive right now.
Not sure what I said was severe enough to warrant that, but whatever. I appreciate your restraint.
I appreciate Makkah's efforts in getting people to check out the game (and his restraint), we've had some new faces and it's been cool seeing them get involved in the community. The population is very small, but has a strong sense of community, and because of that we can personally involve more characters and incorporate their backgrounds, tailor events to their interests, and fun stuff like that. The best part is that you don't have to pay $65 a month for all that like you would have to in some other games.

Dear Makkah, I didn't get a PM. Why didn't I get one? Now I want a PM. Why are you hoarding the PM's? I demand my fair share of PM's. SEND ME A FUCKING PM!
P.S. I love you Lia but I did have to lol hard @ you accusing Makkah of spambottish behavior.

Welcome to the wilderness. Get a horse or the trailblazing skill, goes a bit faster.
I like the wait though, gives it a feeling of distance and keeps players from running across the entire world map in a blink.

The wait, the need to eat 3 minutes after being "outside", and not knowing wth I was doing were killing it for me. I will definitely try it again, I need to find my Druid warrior (can't remember the ig name) trainer!

Bump. While I don't play a lot lately, it is still an amazing game with an amazing staff. MUD players looking for a change from GS should check it out, for sure.
I'll play some this week if anyone would like some guidance, give me a holler.

I played this mud a little. Well, "played." I don't think the GMs in this game understood the concept of a new player coming in and taking a couple jabs at others through the combat system. I'd have liked to have seen some more creativity towards these kind of issues. Their response was just, kill, ban, etc. Boring! This game seemed like a boring combination of DR and GS. Many things copied wholecloth. Training and upping skills was boring and redundant. Rating: 2 stars out of 5
