Hello! I'm new to the game and am considering Sorcerer or a Wizard and I'd like to know what differences, aside from magic of course, to expect. I've been playing as a sword swinging Wizard so far and I love the game.
Will I be able to swing a sword as effectively?
How is leveling a Sorcerer vs leveling a Wizard?
What are the key differences in play style? PvP? PvM?
What is the difference in power, if any?
Thanks!

No. Wizards cheat with haste, which sorcerers don't have. I don't know the math, but I'm pretty sure they also manage to get a higher AS. Sorcerers have a ton of disabling spells that might seem to make swinging attractive, but if you're going to use those, you might as well just kill the things with other spells.
How is leveling a Sorcerer vs leveling a Wizard?
Easy and boring. Sorcerers take the longest to get to a nice comfort area where you can start utilizing more fun methods of slaying. Until then, it's 702 from guarded all day long for killing. I guess people do actually stance and channel, but I never bothered.
What are the key differences in play style? PvP? PvM?
Well, the main attack types for pures are either CS spells or AS spells. Wizards don't get into effective CS (ie immolate builds; 519) until much later, while sorcerers don't get into a heavy bolt build until later.
PvP in Gemstone is not generally well received by the GMs. It can be done, with reason, but you won't get away with just walking around killing people. Even so, being new, I certainly don't advise fucking with people that have been playing the game for as long as most have and know the ins and outs of things. You will lose, and badly. The game simply isn't designed for PvP anyway.
What is the difference in power, if any?

It's all relative, I guess. Sorcerers had their nuts stomped on a long time ago, which basically translates to the fact that our once powerful low-level spell is fairly weak now (yay for designing sorcerers for attrition-based combat and then utterly stopping that idea while giving other classes the kind of power sorcerers had), but at higher levels (when you can use better spells than 702/705) it doesn't really matter.

This would boil down to how I want to play over what is "best" to play, doesn't it?
Interesting. Would it be a hassle if someone could post a couple spells against like level creatures?
Are CS spells different from AS? How so?
(I only asked the PvP question because you never know when something might go wrong.)
Completely off topic but would anyone know the repo download for Wehnimer rat hunting?
If you want to play what is best, empath or wizard.
