Working on a laptop for a friend. Her laptop is fairly old. Dell inspiron 1520 running XP Home Edition. In the past the laptop has had challenges with viruses and spyware, all which have been removed.
Recently she purchased a new digital camera and installed the software that came with it. After doing so, her laptop went to a Blue Screen of Death. She tried to uninstall it via Safe Mode but couldn't.
I was able to uninstall her software. But the BSOD only happens when hardwired to the internet. As long as she is not connected the laptop appears to be working fine. The BOSD message is Page Fault in Non Paged Area.
I feel that I am not trying to stop a dying horse from failing.
-Temp files emptied
-Laptop is virus and spyware free
-ran chkdsk/f
-reseated the RAM and cleaned the connectors
Personally I feel that I have spent way too much time attempting to fix this. If I was at my old job I would have backed up everything and put a fresh image on the machine.
Besides punting the machine should I try anything else?
Thanks.
