I pretty much know what I need to know about a ranger/wizard combo.

Very nice since they both bring so many excellent spells, but I wanted to compare it to another combo that people have mentioned.

The bard / wizard combo.

What can I look forward to with this combo?

Bards are epic pwnage either way you slice it. Havin a wiz about would make it that much faster

They more compliment each other than support each other. The bard is going to boost the wizard's bolt AS with 1007. Plenty of telepathy lore will increase it even more. Luck song should help the wizard with regard to some few maneuver checks but not much with CMANs. More like with climbs or illoke boulder sprays and things like that. The bard can tank a bit if it is the right race with the right armor and high enough AS. They should deflect a lot of the cmans that a wizard would struggle with, unless you're a pure bard.

Regardless, they will clear rooms fast. I prefer hunting with an empath, as a bard, but I can see the appeal in a wizard partner. The only trick is finding specific areas to hunt. If you are talking about two capped characters, you can pretty much go anywhere. I would think a archer ranger would be a good mix with either of those professions, too.

I run a bard wizard combo -- They are both 40 now and they destroy everything around them. My only real problem is that it can be hard to fry the wizard when the bard 1 shots things with 1030.

Why not just cone first, then have the bard clean up?

Oh I do, but the wizard often wont do the ~50 to everything he needs on the first cone.
