A friend invited me to go, she said it's a great opportunnity to get blitzed and meet new people. But I'm not sure if I should go.

Would this qualify me as a yuppie? I must stay true to my poor white roots, after all!

Discuss!

it's a great opportunnity to get blitzed - correct

and meet new people - correct

Would this qualify me as a yuppie? - without a doubt

I must stay true to my poor white roots, after all! this seems optional to me.

Hey, and you may find a particular wine you really enjoy.

I hate being so ignorant about wines in general, but have not taken the time to educate myself about them.

I say go and have fun.:)

LOL I am so using that as my sig. Sorry, Halfsilver gets the boot.

Uhm, back on topic...I say go for it. Even though you might be selling out...wine tasting is fun. I've gone four times and all I've gotten out of it was A) I like cheese and crackers B) I can spell "Chardonnay" ((actually I'm not even sure if that's correct anymore..heh)) C) When they say "mellow walnut overtones" or some such nonsense it means it's going to be bitter as hell and D) I rather stick to the $2.99 Maneschewitz stuff. So yeah, I don't think I'm fitting into that snooty type category. But I can raise my pinky finger when I sip stuff with the best of them!! :P

I don't think this makes you a yuppie. My fat loud obnoxious and barely HS educated uncle went to one and had a lot of fun. He's the man too, funny stories came from it, heh. He's definitely no yuppie.

Discuss! You must expand your horizons. Go! Get wasted and educated on wine all at once.

I hate wine.

I don't think going to a wine tasting makes you a yuppy.

Moving to Northern VA was a huge step in that direction though.

And I'm with stupid. Beer tasting kicks ass. Went to a few at Hard Times (Chili place). Alot of the beers tasted decent, though the one I can't get out of my head is the one that tasted like you were drinking smoked sausage.

Disgusting.

I live in Tampa, and every year they have a huge "Beer Fest" that has tons of micro breweries that give away free samples. For $10, you purchase a large shot glass and go from vendor to vendor and sample their brews.

I was plastered in an hour.

Go!

I worked at a wine distribution company as an intern while in college.

They are a blast.

A great way to get drunk, and a great way to taste a bunch of different wines that would cost just obscene amounts of money if you bought them all yourself.

Definitely a positive experience.

That's basically what this was. $10, big shot glass, but you sit down and they bring the beer to you (even better). And you rate it on a piece of paper with multiple criteria - flavor, bitterness, overall, etc. And if you find one you like, you just raise your hand and they bring you over a nice big glass.

That is awesome. I need to go to one of them when I'm 21.

I'm confused. You'd actually consider passing up on a new, fun, learning experience at which you'll get buzzed, tipsy, or wasted... because you have a wierd image you want to live up to? :nutty:

GTFO of your trailer and go drink some wine! :bleh: And feel free to pair jeans with a slightly nicer shirt.

My mom and my aunt sell wine and liquor for a living. I've been lucky to have the opportunity to taste all different kinds of wine. Believe me it's a great experience.

DO IT.

Doesn't make you a yuppie.

Do they have trailers in NoVa? I'm not even sure... LOL.

Nah, I'll probably skip the wine tasting since I'm going to go to the Herndon Festival on Saturday. It promises to be amusing.

PS. I haven't ever lived in a trailer. (Thank god.).

Wine tasting is wonderful. I've always preferred wine to beer.

Make sure you drink a decent amount of water if you think your going to drink alot of wine. Especially if your drinking red wines. Oh and if you get a chance, drink some orange juice or a teaspoon of honey. The sugar helps burn off the wine so you wont be so hung over the next day. Something red wines, brandy etc are good at causing.

As to the yuppie thing, nah. Not these days, screw em if they can't deal with you liking wine. :)

Could be fun. I'm not a big red wine fan mostly because they're so dry. I'm really big on the dessert white wines (yeah I know, I don't wanna hear it).

Definite learning experience. You get to learn how to tell good a wine is...smelling the cork, the legs on the glass, etc. And you'll meet a bunch of different people.

And if you don't want to feel like a yuppie you could always bring some of that wine that comes in a box and offer it to people!

Yes, there are trailers here. Two that I know of: One behind the Mount Vernon Multiplex in Alexandria, other next to the Chili's on 29 in Fairfax (looks out of place next to huge townhouses).

Don't forget about the Fairfax Fair coming up next weekend. Past performances by has-beens such as: Fastball, Frankie goes Hollywood, and others.

This year on the main stage is Vertical Horizon(Fri. 8pm), Presidents of the United States of America(Sat 3pm), Pat McGee Band(Sat. 7pm), and the Charlie Daniels Band(Sun. 4pm). Might have to walk, yes I'm that close, over on Saturday to see the Presidents.

6 stages in all, so something for almost everyone.

Actually, the legs on the glass only inform you (very, very roughly) as to the alochol content of the wine. The longer they stick, the higher the alcohol content. People who think they can divine anything else from the legs are nuts. =)

As for smelling the cork.... never, ever, ever do that! You can tell whether the wine is bad from the nose when you sniff the wine in the glass. You don't need to smell the cork for anything. The cork should be checked for firmness and some even, though not complete, wine penetration.

Klaive how about you leave Longshot alone instead of harrassing him and responding to each of his posts in hopes to goad him into leaving? You know damn well he can't stand you and it's no secret that if he or someone else went to your boards and pulled this crap you'd ban them quicker than someone can say "I'm a fucking fatass LOL." So cut the shit.

Yeah well, as I said before, I don't drink red wine. Most of what I said I picked up from my dad, the alcoholic. ;)
