How effective are they in combat? (particularly the avian species)

Anyone have document on all the pros and cons of using companions and so forth?

Thanks,
Matt

Pre-cap my panther saved my bacon a few times with the auto-attack when they see you get stunned. Besides that, she sucks in combat.

You have to know what you want your companion to do..first of all.

and you have to keep that up. ie type fast and know the commands.

Set the commands to macros, just make sure your companion is following you. They are pretty useless in combat, except if you get stunned, which at that point they may save your rear end, but probably not.

Counting on a companion for anything but roleplay is silly.

Go with a rodent for the bonus to porcupine and whatever the one is for logic bonus while resting.
