"Missouri couple falls for expensive hotel prank"

Newport police who were called to a room at Motel 6 on Heritage Boulevard last Friday on reports of vandalism were not immediately allowed into the room occupied by Donald and Linda Tracy of Missouri.


The Couple told Cap Scott Lamb they had received a phone call from a man who indicated he was calling from the front desk, and saying there was a gas leak in the motel.

"They were told to use the back of toilet to break out a window and to then throw the tv outside because the tvs were exploding due to the gas leak. Then the vanity mirror was to be broken because the gas masks were stored behind the mirror,"Lamb said.

The Tracys were also told not to open the door because persons dressed as police were responsible for the gas leak and they the couple would be hurt if they opened the door.

The tracey's settled the vandalism by agreeing to pay the motel $1200.

This is happening all over the US actually. Probably has to do with most people not questioning an authority figure, even over the phone. Just like that one Mcdonalds manager who strip searched a female employee because someone on the phone claiming to be a police officer told him to.

Wouldn't put it past the people around here however the part of the article I omitted was that they called back while the officer was there and spoke to him resulting in some cursing etc at which point they determined it was a prank.

Still to get fucked for $1200 is some bullshit.
