On the reverse of the shield, a complex webbing of oiled leather straps and polished buckles forms an intricate arm harness. The straps are arranged in a pattern that appears able to secure a weapon within. Inlaid into the surface of the shield are thin layers of shadowglass, which form a swirling, barely distinguishable pattern of twisting vines and crimson-tipped thorns. So terribly black and lifeless is the shadowglass, that you cannot be certain if the material has been cut out of the shield in that pattern, or if it has truly been inlaid with such an unfavorably dark material.
