So do you think they are ready security-wise? Personally, these are the same people that were having trouble keeping to the deadlines just for building the stadiums. I'm not really sure how much faith I'm putting into their security measures. But then, I'm not an athlete in the games either.

The news has been boring lately, and so have the Olympics. Let's hope something blows up.

I've never been a big fan of events in the Olympics...that's not to say they suck, it's just something I don't enjoy watching much.

However, with everything going on now..if American athletes feel that they aren't safe, they shouldn't be ridiculed for not wishing to participate. Let's face it, America is Public Enemy No. 1 right now. Many Americans have cancelled trips be it business or pleasure overseas due to these issues...now we're going to bash the athletes who do the same?

My favorite are those Eastern European swimming broads that are more manly than half the men on earth.

I seriously think they do the Buffalo Bill and hide captain winky between their legs.

Also, let us not forget the time honored traditions of beach volleyball and ballroom dancing... the Olympics suck.

We know we are a great country when we don't care about them.

In South Korea, they still whine about the short track speed skater who was disqualified from the winter olympics, giving the US the gold medal. I'm sure none of you remember this, because it's not important in any way possible... but, in a small and shitty country, things like gold medals really matter. They still bitch about this today like it happened yesterday... reason #5178 why Korea sucks.

Regardless, the "sports" they include are still ridiculous.

The Security will be fine.

While it'd be a prime target to attack Western interests... it IS the Olympics... and it's much more likely to create international outrage at any terrorists, than blame on the US/UK/etc for the "war on terror."

Al Qaeda may relish the opportunity, but I think they'll back off unless they think they can figure out a way to only attack compounds with only US athletes.

The Olympics are an historic event. They are running the same route with the flame this year as they did when the Greeks held the very first games.

You never know. You might see the next Cassius Clay, Mary Lou Retton, or the US Hocky team this year.

I'd like to see the U.S. Basketball team lose. Maybe it will send the NBA back into reality, realize it needs to develop it's stars more, stop drafting high schoolers, and stop catering to the every whim of its spoiled athletes. Basketball has gone way down hill in the last decade.

I love the Olympics and watch them religiously. Not so much the team sports - actually, not at all the team sports - but that's no surprise as I don't like them outside of the Olympics either. Gymnastics and diving are the best events of the summer while skiing is the highlight of the winter ones.

No real point to this post: just adding my vote to those who are pro Olympics.

I have a v. bad feeling about the Olympics. I think it'd be awesome to see them, I've always wanted to go to Greece (though not necessarily Athens).

I like the gymnastics (guys, don't pretend you don't like to stare at their little butts) and the diving.

I might actually get to attend the Olympics one day if we get them here in NYC. That would be great.

Americans are too indifferent. They have pride in all the wrong things.

I second this 100%. I love watching nearly everything except the team sports. This year being in Greece is going to be even cooler.

ROFL longshot. That was hilarious.

Yeah, I read that their bodies can get kind of screwed up sometimes.

If I recallr ight, a woman needs a certain amount of body fat to have her body function optimally. Any athlete, but gymnasts especially, who overtrains to such an extreme that their percentage of body fat falls below that level will stop menstruating. If they do so at an early age, which all female gymnasts do, I believe even puberty is delayed. Hence why you see such small, undeveloped, sixteen year olds on the women's olympic team.
