View Full Version : Armor evasion vs support

So I have this adamantine MBP now that weighs 35 pounds. With no loot my encumbrance without surge of strength is "Your load is a bit heavy, but you feel confident that the weight is not affecting your actions very much." With surge I am not encumbered. I usually have surge up when I'm hunting but obviously it won't take much in the way of boxes to quickly become encumbered. I estimate I'm probably going to end up spending a good deal of time with some degree of encumbrance.

Do you guys think it's better for me to use rank 3 evasion or rank whatever I can get of support? Tradeoff being the better action penalty of evasion vs. the better encumbrance of support. Which one will help my maneuver defense more? Which one will be better for my DS?

Support since you are in a plate class which sucks for armor evasion

Encumbrance plays a huge (HUGE) role in maneuver checks. I'd go with support.

By the time you pick up one box, I'm sure the encumberance is worse.

So what if you wear say...9 or 6 pound plate?

I wear 23lb plate and go with evasion 3. I evade quite often and am very happy with it.

It has more to do with whether or not you're encumbered than it does your armor weight. The weight reduction from support is independent of armor weight.

never encumbered

Thanks for the input. Sounds like support it is. I also used to only run surge once the cooldown wore off to save stamina which means it was up 75% of the time. Now I'm going to have to consider running it 100% of the time, or at least once I get loaded with boxes.

This is just makes me more pissed that most of the time disks can't hold two boxes. I also should probably cut down on all the shit I carry with me but it's just so damn useful having all of the utility items.

A good choice, especially since you're hunting in the rift where getting there is a bit of a PITA. I tend to hunt till I can carry no more up there and then come down.

Regarding surge, consider replacing it with a pile of strength enhancives. They are easy enough to come by, and if you max your strength with enhancives you can spend all those CMAN points on something else and never worry about running out of stamina due to surge.

Yeah, the way small items stack weight-wise is pretty fucked. My lockpicks weigh something like 15 lbs (more than most THW).

Interesting thought, but I'm almost maxxed on my enhancive slots with edged and CM so I would need some pretty amazing enhancives to be able to consolidate. Inventory slots are more of a premium for me than CM points I think

I know that feeling, I'm largely in the same situation, though I've nothing on my ankles! Of course, part of the reason I'm in that boat is that I maxxed strength, (and hurling), etc. I would think you could give up some CM, particularly as a rogue.

Get that fucking plate lightened! 35 pound MBP... sucks. Base weight is 23. Min weight is like, 12 or 14.

oh, and cast my vote for SUPPORT in your case.

Adamantine, max lightened is 35 lbs.

And I also vote support, and will hook you up whenever I see ya.

Skill Name: Armored Evasion
Mnemonic: evasion
Other Requirements: None.
Available to: Rogues.
Prerequisites:
None
Armor Point Cost:
Rank 1: 20
Rank 2: 30
Rank 3: 40
Rank 4: 50
Rank 5: 60
Description: Adjusts a person's armor so that it is better fitted for dodging attacks. Reduces the Armor Action Penalty by (Rank * (7 - Armor Group)) / 2.

At rank 3 you are only getting -3(or +3 however you want to look at it) on your AP. That will only effect your dodge by 1.5%, no idea if any rounding or truncating is involved here or not though. While out hunting I've seen my DS drop about 20 points when surge falls, and as stated by others that encumbrance is key when dodging maneuvers. As for the enhansive idea you'll have to find some nice ones to make carrying them worth it in the first place as their weight also adds up and isn't helping you any either.
