So, the recent post about the fish that lets you speak gnomish got me to thinking about the various items that let you hear/speak different languages. Anyone know where the sylvan one(to hear) went to? Is it still in the lands and if so, who might have it? I want to know what the fiance is saying to the other sylvans

It is called an alt account with an invisible Sylvan character. You then RP that you understand all that garbage. Sylvans are just a bunch of cyber whores anyways why would you want to understand them? Oh wai...

What you are looking for are the language earrings. There is one for every language, but as for the owners, your best bet would be to check on Nilandia's website for a list of the winners from the Ebon Gate Auctions and start from there. These items very rarely move, at least openly, so I wish you luck.

Seriously, you won't get one. The people that have such items have them for RP reasons. So it'll take a LOT of silvers/cash. I wasn't joking when I said make an alt that is Sylvan and have them walk around invisible with you. If discovered you can always RP them as an interpreter.

Belnia had several of these, but he probably won't be posting here anymore. Perhaps you'll get a pm from someone if you post an outrageous price.

yeah, I don't really expect to get my hands on one, but I'd like to know about them and get some general info.. as much as possible.. in case the chance does arise.. What would be outrageous? 200m?

200m? Yeah, that'll probably get you something really quick. Way too high. 30-40m I'd say. But then again, I don't own any and wouldn't value them like those who do own them. All the same, 200m is out of the ballpark.

I figured if I'm going to go outrageous, I might as well go all the way. 60m or 200m, I don't have it. Good to know though, thanks.

There is only one sylvan earcuff I know of for sure, and it's not moving. Three earcuffs went out at the 2009 EG auction that could be set to any language, but one of them was set to elven. That leaves two that I don't know the language for.

This is so cute.

No need to make invisible characters or sell your kidney to get one of those earcuffs. I'll just translate for you. <3

This makes the case for spending TPs on language skills. How they would program different levels of speaking and understanding might prove a problem. Perhaps automatic tones of brokenly, adequately, fluently could be used and default for default is fluently.

Implement a roll to whether or not you'll understand a speech action, eventually you train enough to roll over 100 each time?

Would be pretty neat... Like a reverse drunk mechanic for hearing.

One for Dhe'nar-si, one for Faendryl, and one for Dark Elven. Faendryl is on a long inactive account, Dhe'nar-si isn't moving. Not sure on the Dark Elven.

I don't suppose anyone actually knows who has the sylvan one? For some reason I keep wanting to say Jolena, but I am probably wrong.

Yeah, I misread it. For some reason I read moving but thought I saw broken.

One can hope that maybe if the Sylvan earcuff isn't in use one might be willing to give it up. Sometimes people give stuff like this away so that it isn't lost to the ..bottom of a locker somewhere. You know I think it might be Jolena or Michiko(sp?), who might indeed have the Sylvan earcuff.

I believe you are right about Belnia. If I recall correctly, he had the elven and sylvan one and didn't want to get rid of them. I remember offering around 50m for the elven one and not getting it.

For the sake of recordkeeping, I set the one I won at the EG auction to elven also. I want to say one of the others that was won was set to.. Tehir? But I'm not sure.

There's a Tehir language?

pretty sure Tehir is Turkish for the Arabic name Taahir. so I guess they speak some Turkish or Arabic language? aren't the Tehir a desert people? the whole thing reeks of the Fremen from Dune.

By the way, the concept of using an item to understand a language is pretty dumb. Should be something you train in and master like a guild skill.

Yup, I RPed that Rogane understood it, but wasn't Tehir. It's the only language you can speak, besides common, as a human.

The Turkish version of Taahir is just Tahir. Tehir (also an Arabic word) in Turkish means to delay.
