I got bored today, and when I get bored I have a tendency to build random webpages/gadgets. Today was no different. As a result of my boredom we now have this: http://search.gsiv.net/. What's this you ask? Why, it's a Google CSE (Custom Search Engine) that queries the important sites like play.net, Krakiipedia, the PC (of course!), Nilandia's, and others.

Example Search Results

For those of you using Firefox, you can visit the site and click the "Add Firefox Search Plugin" located in order to add the CSE to your Firefox Search Providers.

And that about sums it up. Hopefully some of you will find it useful, but if not at least I ate up some of my time!

Neat idea!!

(Can you see what people search? If so I left you a few funny ones, if not, too bad)

I cannot see the searches that have been performed. I guess I'll just have to be sad and never know  <-- See? Sad face is sad.

Okay, I've been reluctant to do this and I still feel a little lame doing it now, but I'm in a really tough financial spot at the moment and I have little choice. I've been making websites, maps, and other tools for the GS community for awhile now and I truly do it because it's something that makes me happy (and because I get bored) but it does come with out of pocket expenses for both the registering of domain names as well as hosting costs.

With that in mind, the http://search.gsiv.net/ now has Paypal donation button located at the bottom of the page. Please don't feel as though donations are by any means expected, but if you'd like to contribute to this and future work I would be very much so appreciative.

Not directly related, but I got bored again last night and finally did something with the sites I had saved and put them together at http://archives.gsiv.net/. There are only a few sites up at the moment, but as is mentioned on the page I welcome suggestions for additional sites to host. The wayback machine is like magic so there's a good chance we can get at stuff that's been gone for awhile. If you have any suggestions, or comments please feel free to post, IM, PM, or email kyaloria AT gmail DOT com. Additionally, the http://search.gsiv.net/ site is now set up to search all content listed on the archive.

I always get a kick reading the guides from the middle 90's. Especially the manner and etiquette ones.

I got a kick out of seeing stuff about the AutoRoller. Brings a lot of stuff back.
