Played the demo, pretty fucking sweet so far. I just enjoyed cutting up orks with a chainsword. Can't wait for the full game to release next month.

Looking forward to it myself, but am of course disappointed that I have to a space marine.
All I know is, it is poised to kick the ever lovin' shit out of Fire Warrior. That game was terrible.

They did really good with the jump packs, which surprised me. I'm not sure if I'm going to get it on my PC or my XBox yet, because I could see it as being handled really well with a console controller.
And I guess I was fortunate enough to have never played Firewarrior. I think I was too busy playing the shit out of DoW to notice it.
I also noticed the Ultramarine movie is available for digital download now, so I went ahead and bought that for 7 bucks. I hope it doesn't suck.

I pre-ordered it for a friend... he has an entire ultramarine company, missing only a thunderhawk for 'em. Mostly because those bastards are expensive as hell.

You can play Tyranids in DoW2, in Retribution you can in the campaign. If you don't have DoW2, get Retribution. It is the best and a standalone.

I don't think it ever explains it, but I would imagine that between attrition of the Heresy and the downsizing from legions to companies at that time that they would have a lot of vehicles like that... intended for more troops, but chronically understaffed.

Something to do with the rest of the company being engaged in another campaign already.

Perhaps, but still, even a battle barge itself is a fairly prized ship, and their leader was a Captain/ I'm wondering if this is perhaps occurring during that one Hive Fleets assault into Ultramar, which pulled pretty much the entire chapter back to defend. (I read way too much WH40k shit) /nerd
I think the biggest reason why is it would have been a pain in the ass to create that many characters/models.

Don't need termie armor for powerfists- thunder hammers used to be one of the few weapons termies could wield, but they weren't exclusive to them. Not sure about lightning claws, though. They might be terminator armor only. I can't remember, offhand.

Thunder hammers are terminator only, although I just found some conflicting info saying terminators are the only ones that can wield them one handed. I just read some crap that says powerfists are most commonly seen in terminator armor (and the pics it showed of the powerfists are likely a terminator only model) but they can be used by others, including imperial guard officers. Go figure.

Well, I haven't read a marine codex lately, but it used to say "Models in terminator armor can only be equipped with X", and not "Only models in terminator armor can be equipped with X". Additionally, inquisitors not in T-armor could use daemonhammers, which were blessed thunder hammers.
Pretty sure chainfists are terminator only, which might be part of the confusion.

I'm pretty sure chain fist is a terminator exclusive... unless you're building an elite captain with special rules and shit.
Also, thanks for the heads-up about DoW:II Retribution. I'll be picking it up now, I suppose.

Yeah, there is a bunch of confusing and conflicting crap floating around the internet. One place says thunder hammers are Terminator only, another place says Terminators are the only ones that can swing them one-handed where as everyone else needs two hands.
Thinking about it, I believe my confusion came that standard-issue for many terminators is a power fist, but I think I've heard of commissars with them on a somewhat more than rare basis.

There's a fairly old one based on the Inquisition.

Actually, Dark Heresy is pretty current, I don't think it's that difficult to find the books. Let's do a quick check.

There you go. Based on the Inquisition.
I have the main book- it's pretty cool. The system seems to be almost a cross between rifts and d&d... using a talent/feat system like d&d combined with rifts style percentile based skills.

I was actually thinking of Necromunda... which is pretty damn obscure, I know. It's not as based in the Inquisition as I remember it, but I think that's just due to the guy who was running the game I played.
Though, Dark Heresy looks cool too.
Delias

Necromunda is a skirmish game- an awesome one. There was a game just called Inquisitor, which was kind of like a cross between an RPG and Necromunda.... Dark Heresy by FFG is pretty much a pure RPG.

I actually have a shelf of necromunda terrain- I just took it out, dusted it off, and assembled it a few weeks ago. Friends came over and we were shooting the hell out each other with ridiculously named gangers, just like the old days.

The ranged combat in general felt like something I would only be bothering with in specific situations... the controls don't feel as tight as they would in a dedicated shooter, so why not play to the strengths of the game by chainswording the shit out of every green motherfucker that crosses my path?

PC? If so, we must have been in the same matches. I almost never hear someone with a mic in PC but there was a dude breathing heavy and another playing techno the whole match. I only had enough time to do part of the first single player mission and play a single online match, but I'll play more later today. Space Marine is a lot of fun.

Yep, on PC. May very well have been. Every match I've been in has had someone with a hot mic though. I'd hear breathing or just reverb. On the Space Marine forums there are people asking for an option to disable them, so hopefully they'll do that in a patch. I usually click them all off anyways, but sometimes people join midmatch and I get stuck with it again.

If you want to learn more about the chapter in the game, get the Ultramarines Omnibus. All three of those Android listed are good books though. Ultramarines are the most by the book, professional chapter of the Space Marines, Space Wolves are your straight up brawlers that love to drink heavy and fight hard, Grey Knights work for the Ordo Malleus of the Inquisition(They exist to fight daemons and other creatures from the warp.)
There are some other good books out there also, such as Gaunt's Ghost which is about an Imperial Guard Regiment and Last Chancers which is about an Imperial Guard Penal Regiment. Another really good one I liked was called Ciaphus Cain: Hero of the Imperium, it is about a commissiar, and he runs into Necrons a lot.
If it doesn't have Black Library on the book though(the symbol below), it is probably crap and not WH40k canon, such as most of the WH40k books you'll find for the Nook and stuff on Amazon. Some of them are okay, but the quality is really meh.

Fire Warrior is actually a pretty good book... it basically switches back and forth from a Fire Warrior in his trial of fire, Kais, and a space marine captain who reluctantly allies with him while fighting chaos.

The other guys have given some good book recommendations, and I'd like to echo the first Gaunt's Ghosts omnibus and mention the Ravenor/Eisenhorn series, particularly Eisenhorn. It follows an Inquisitor through most of his career and I don't really want to say much more than that. Ravenor is Eisenhorn's student and his series picks up towards the end of Eisenhorn, so you definitely want to read them in order.
Caiaphas Cain is a really good series if you like Flashman. It's done in a different style than most 40k books and really doesn't take itself too seriously.
The Horus Heresy series is sometimes hit and miss due to different authors, but most of them are pretty solid. The first three sort of set the stage for the rest of them.
Probably the best 40k book I've read was Titanicus by Dan Abnett. It's about a war on a forgeworld and involves lots of titan combat.
p.s. Stay away from anything written by C.S. Goto.
