Hi all, I am returning from a very long hiatus from the game and find myself to once again be a newbie.

That said, I've seen a lot of discussion about THW rogues but haven't run into any specific builds. My level 34 rogue has a fixskills that I'd like to put to use around this. I've got one of those vultite-alloy quarterstaffs and was wondering what builds you guys have seen around that strategy. I'm also curious what kind of CMANs are useful as well.

If possible, I'd also like to be able to pick/disarm at level. I know that is going to probably be a stretch, but any advice on how to balance it all out would be appreciated!

Thanks,

FYI I don't think the quartersaff makes it worth it if that's the only reason you're hitting THW.

Nah, that isn't the only reason. I've just heard good things about it. THW is something I haven't had a lot of experience with and just seems like a lot of fun.

It's very effective for a rogue.
I couldn't fit picking in at cap with my combat THW rogue. Maybe someone will chime in who knows if it can be stretched to fit.

Belnia (I think it was) did an ambushing rogue with a MCWed quarterstaff, and it was rather good. They do crush only don't they?

Quarterstaff is a halfway decent weapon to ambush with. It has a crappy AvD against heavier armored opponents, and an unimpressive DF, but it is one of the faster if not the fastest 2 handed weapon. Furthermore, it only does crush damage. You're going to want to upgrade eventually.

Picking/disarm with THW would be tough. At about your level, I did THW ambushing with 410. So maybe ditching 410 would give enough points for picking but 410 makes it way fun. The points were a bit tight so I was less than 2x ambush.

Someone was selling a MCW quarterstaff. I crunched out if it would be worthwhile with exactly this prospect in mind. If memory serves... compared to a plain vultite maul, it won out a bit vs the low AGs but it's not like you need any help there.

Further, as long as you trigger the ambush crit weighting on a hit to the head/neck with the maul, it's a kill.

How would trip work if you were using a quarterstaff?

About the same as trip with other weapons, so relatively shitty.

how difficult was the maul to aim for you, out of curiosity? That's another point, I imagine the quarterstaff is a bit easier to aim (5 second base vs 7)

Maul was not hard to aim as long as you go for head. If you miss, baring in mind you just ambushed something with a maul, it's fucked until you swing again anyway.

Holy shit, I spent most of 96-2000 chatting with you in ICQ while playing GS3. Your character names bring back a ton of memories. I can get you fixed up with some gear and shit if you need but I don't know balls about rogues.

PM'd and welcome back.

Once he added THW to his reportoire, Briar Fox (Nuadjah) posted some logs of him housing Ithzir with one of those quarterstaffs. Also while swinging a bow at them, lmao. The staffs work but you have to pick your prey with them. A maul or mattock is going to be your "money" ambushing THW I'd say. If it were me doing it I'd do a stealth build (3x dodge, light armor, smastery) and pick up ewave.
