I think you're going to have some issues with anything "temporary". If someone is paying for account they're going to want your security answer. And if you give up your security answer, the account is not retrievable.

That or she's hoping to be able to buy some or all back in 6 months to a year? I admit, I think it's different but not sketchy. Best of luck getting this to happen. Even better luck in getting it back in part or complete when you choose to return. My initial guess is that the items/gear is free game.

I think you might have better luck not selling the account but just letting someone take it over until your return, if you plan to. With that kind of price tag, you might run into people cleaning all the lockers out, selling off the contents and maybe even selling off the characters piecemeal and then you'd never see most again. Wish I could afford to help.

Sell it to someone you know you can get back into contact with and if you're lucky you can pay the same they did (plus extra for EXP services etc) to get the account back.

I would try and arrange this with someone you already know and trust. If you "rent" the account to some PC random, you stand a great chance of never getting it back.

Most people don't want to rent a character anyway. The only time they are ever sold back to the original owner is if they (original owner) offer a damn good mark up price or the new owner gets bored and asks the first owner if they want them back.

I'm not going to type the word 'owner' again today.

let me weigh in here, ive sold characters with the intentions of buying them back and i wont sell to just anyone, i want to know who i am selling my account to, and when we talk via AIm i explain to them i want the acount back in a year and i amwilling to repay the 350USD or whatever plus a min surcharge for exp gain if the account and lockers are kept in orginal condition

As a buyer I want to also weigh in.

Selling to someone with the intention of buying it back in a pre-determined time sounds great, but there have been plenty of times where I have bought a character, and then went to sell it, to have the original owner say oh sell it to me!

Then they never can come up with the money or its just empty promises.

And in reality, if a year goes by and someone uses a fixskill or gets a really nice raffle win usually the previous owners are not going to pay nearly enough to offset the costs of the monthly sub to grow their character.

I mean look at the prices of some recent character sales, years of play time to get $300, and they were paying $180 a year just to play.

So you would have to earn a crap load experience in that year period of time to offset the $180 cost to only get say a $50 premium on the return.

Its just not worth someone's time to be a 12 month pawnshop for what would be a substantial loss financially.

edited to add: So using Aethor's example. I buy X character for $350 and hold him for 12 months. Lets say the character isn't even being used, and when he comes back he pays me $400. So that is a 14% rate of return on my $350 for 12 months time. But in that 12 months who knows what happens to the GS market, and for those kinds of returns I would rather just go buy stocks. I think less than 2% monthly return is pretty piss poor in a market you can't sell on because you made a promise to the buyer to not sell out from them.

This bears repeating, especially with the added potential for drama. If I were ever to do something like this, it'd be with this sort of pricing plan:

Repayment:
Original purchase price
+ cost of intervening subscription
+ 20m silvers per million experience
+ I keep any items, etc gained in the period
+ I use any bounty points gained or they're sold to the original owner at market price
+ I use any PPs gained in the period or they're sold to the owner at market price

What you're asking for is a leveling service, not a sale.

If people actually wanted to run leveling services and people would actually pay for one, I think you would see them all over the place.

Do me a favour and highlight for me where she said she specifically wanted to sell this account to someone so they can level her characters.

Because the characters can't be used for pocket guards, picking, imbedding, bashing, singing, purifying or hunt support?

i never said i wanted someone to take care of training them. the main reason i even posted it here was because it is the quickest way for me to reach all of my friends at one time. instead of sitting online IMing each and every one of them, as they come online through the day. there goes the blonde trying to think ahead, again....
