I need to stop eating junk food, canned food, greasy food, and dairy. I need to start eating vegetables and rice and drink more water. He adds that this little ailment of mine should go away on its own so long as I avoid all of this junk food. Lucky me.

You have to eat vegetables?! :scared:
My diet primarily consists of grain and meat, with some dairy and "junk food".
I don't think I've eaten any fruits/vegs since like... preschool. (I make up for it in vitamins supplements).
But for some reason, eating those make me feel sick to the point of :barf:
Regardless, I'm in pretty good shape and am a lightweight.
.
Seems like you're stuck giving up all the "good stuff" ? At least for now that is?
Then once the virus is killed, it'll be back to the normal diet?
Editted to fix stupid emicons.

Actually, it got so bad that I had a 105 temp and my throat swelled up. I had to go to the hospital and they gave me steroids to open up my throat. I recovered quickly after that little trip. ;)

Really, I've always wondered what Mono really was. All I know is in Jr High, a classmate had it, and he only showed up for school like once every 2 weeks or so.

Mono sucks. I got it last semester. Was like a long case of the flu. Just felt awful and had no energy. It took me several weeks to get my energy back, then I would have reoccurrences of severe tiredness every once in a while for a couple months after that. And just to add misery to it, it seems that the virus never leaves your system, its with you forever, coming back to the forefront every once in a while, though I was told that you never get sick from the virus again.

Mono is the epstein-barr virus. Once you get it, it doesn't go away, but lays dormant in your body. Most people only get it once (supposedly) but I've had it more than once, and know plenty of people who've had it repeatedly.
So who knows.
That's what doctors always say.

Burgers are not fast food, if you do it well (And not with 1 liter of mayonnaise)
As the same crap with your fries, if you buy those 20$ for 2 liters of oil extra virgin.
And so on.

You know what's annoying me about my doctor's visit? He didnt even take blood or anything to check and see if I have a virus, bacterial infection, or a parasite. How the hell does he know that its gonna go away on its own in a few days?!? This is day 7 I think, I'm really tired of being sick and I'm actually starting to miss work.
look at it this way... if you come down with some crazy illness you can sue the pants off him.

Why didn't you insist on a blood test?
You're the patient in the doctor's office, you have to make demands for the appropriate medical care you desire.

Did he call your illness gastroenteritis (sp)? When I first read your post about stomach flu I really thought it sounded similar to what I had (well my son had it first and I, as the caretaker, got it too!).
It's an intestinal virus that basically thrives on greasy and solid foods. I had to eat jello, popsicles, and clear liquids for a week before it got out of my system. It's horrible, and I feel for you if you have this.
The doctor can verify this through stool sample testing. I really hope you feel better, Diana!

I hate doctors like that.
IMO, you should call him and ask him what the diagnosis is. Tell him you need a note for work or something. The least he can do is tell you what you have.
Your symptoms do sound like gastro, and you pretty much have to starve it out of your system. I'm not a doctor though, I can just totally relate to your sickness.

I just did some online research from a few websites on Gastroenteritis and I have to say it pretty much sounds like what I have. All the sites say the same thing, drink fluids, eat rice and grains and wait for it to go away. Most of the sites have said it can take up to two weeks. Lets hope I dont have another week of this!

You were just complaining the other day that he basically did not do anything while you were in the office... :?:
I'd think it should be props to your immune system?
Btw, don't let up until a few days after you "think" it is over. Ending treatment prematurely often ends up with the problem flaring up again.

Don't avoid them just take them in moderation. The biggest mistake people do is over do just about anything. Then when it bites them in the ass they go to the other extreme.
You don't need to live your life denying yourself things just don't eat like 6 pounds of gummy bears at a time
MODERATION!!

If you deny yourself those foods, then you'll be down and one day decide to binge. Have a few gummy bears. A few. then put the bag away.
I started eating healthier dinners and on the weekends at the beginning of this year. I still eat crappy lunches. Burgers, Ribs, Pasta, etc. The difference for me was taking fast food and crappy food out of the equation for dinner and on the weekends. I still get to eat the foods I like everyday. And I've lost a decent amount of weight doing it.
Most important thing is to not deprive yourself. Don't listen to X who will tell you "DON'T EAT LE CRAPPY FOOD". Eat it. Just eat a little bit.

What the hell?! Dumplings are steamed anyway and aren't really that fattening, especially if you don't use the dipping sauce which has a lot of sodium. But strip clubs?! That's what gets your heart pumping, your motor running, skin sweating, seat jumping... exercise! C'mon now, that's just suicidal.
