I need a root canal, full mouth root planing, and six crowns with porcelain veneer.

All told, it's going to cost me (OUT OF POCKET, WITH INSURANCE) somewhere around eight thousand dollars.

Make a bid on my organs, folks -- Clearance prices, it's either this or my teeth all fall out...

Christ, today was supposed to be a good day... And I have to go to the doctor, yet...

Ouch Maimara, that kinda sucks. I had to have 2 root canals last year and out of pocket costs were a little under $2000 so I've felt your pain...literally.

It's the crowns that are the priciest. I'd just have them do the one with the exposed nerve that I need fixed so desperately, but the other ones aren't far behind it, and they're all my top front teeth. So... to do one... would be a little weird?

You'll have to negotiate that with someone else.

But the kidneys, part of my liver, intestines, and eyeballs are all for sale. I could probably be talked out of my ovaries, too.

Don't want the kidneys, and your liver is probably shot (lush). intestines & overies, sick.

You do have very pretty eyes though.

Selling organs is the only thing I can think of, my ex screwed my credit up in a very efficient way, so I'm turned down for any kind of loans. I'm not gonna go up to the president of my company and be like HEY CAN I HAVE TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS PLZKTHX?

Actually, I am pretty desperate. Wonder if they'd do SIX MONTHS worth of paycheck advances. HA HA

Ouch sounds like that I just went through dental wise. I needed a root canal (didn't happen) unless I wanted to shell out another 900 bucks to go have gum surgery to get the fucker crowned. I hate dentists. I think they have to be one of the worst doctors to visit.

Look around and be upfront with your dentist. Many will let you set up a payment plan if payment in full at the time of a needed procedure is simply impossible.

Don't be bashfull about asking.

Could you ask your parents?

If your teeth are that fucked up at your age you either drink about six liters of soda a day or don't brush your teeth everyday.

Sucks, but that is what happens when you don't take the preventative measures.

Hulkein, I'm thinking more and more everyday that you are the same person as Halloween.

And perhaps Stanley too.

Well this day in age of fluoride it is unusual to see someone Maimara's age need that much dental work. You don't know people's dental history though. Lot children aren't brought to the dentist when they are young. Some parents don't instill good oral hygeine on their children. Lot of people don't have the luxury of having insurance to go to the dentist etc etc. I'm sure Maimara can attest that she didn't treat her teeth as well as she should have, but its about taking care of her teeth now and caring for them in the future after her dental work. I dont think she needs to hear how surprised someone is that her teeth are "that fucked up."

My mistake, most people in their early 20's need "a root canal, full mouth root planing, and six crowns with porcelain veneer".

I wasn't insulting her, just my input. Sorry it wasn't rosey enough for everyone.

I beg to differ. I'm much more kind and less outspoken now then I was when I first joined. So the more and more part is false.

Judging by the fact that you have a joke regarding Maimara listed in your mood, you have a nice friendship with her. Calm down, it wasn't an insult. Just some helpful adive, brush your teeth twice a day and floss and you won't need to pay 8 grand down the road.

....And there are those who

a. Couldn't afford to go to the dentist in the past

b. Are absolutely terrified of the dentist and just avoid going until things get REALLY bad.

I don't know Maimara's story and it could be multiple reasons she needs work done. But criminy, Hulkien, learn a little couth.

You might want to look into dental schools. While the very idea of a student dentist practicing on my teeth makes me want to shoot something - namely said student before he gets within ten feet of me - it's probably cheaper.

Well water doesn't have fluoride, FYI, and where I grew up, we had well water. And yeah, I did drink a lot of fricking soda back then, it's biting me in th e ass now.

I'm not insulted at all, believe me, I"m the one that has to look in the m irror every day and feel like a fricking hillbilly. But as for it being unusual, it doesn't really seem to be. I haven't had insurance since I was 19, that was 4 years ago. That compounded with the no-fluoride and nasty soda habit... gets you to where I'm at now.

ps, exposed nerves hurt.

oh... and acid reflux disease (I.E., stomach acid in your mouth while you sleep) degrades tooth enamel. I had a problem with acid reflux when I was heavy. Haven't since I started eating healthier and weigh about 80 pounds less. A lot of things went into it, it's a sensitive subject, but I wouldn't have brought it up if I didn't know it was bad. real bad.

But hey, when I have my nice shiny crowns in place I'll be able to smile again! You guys have something to look forward to!

At least the doctor's visit went off without a hitch. Except for the whole referral to a podiatrist so I can have surgery on my feet again... and the "You have fibrocystic breast disease" (whatever that is) "and can't drink caffeine anymore, and must take 1200mg of calcium with magnesium every day".

WTF is it, anyway?

Hulkein
05-24-2004, 03:27 PM
Pretty sure it just means you're prone to getting cysts, and caffeine exacerbates the problem.

My uncle has to cut down his caffeine because he got cysts in his nipples and had to get them cut out. Not sure if it's the exact same thing but sounds like the same symptoms.

Which sucks because I FUCKING LOVE COFFEE.
