Got finished with a hunt, was fried so I'm ready to head into town. Go to use 930 and:

You gesture.
A black mist slowly fills the area. A slight crackling sound can be heard from within, and the scent of ozone tickles your nose. Suddenly, an arc of lightning lashes out from the fog and strikes you!
... 50 points of damage!
Electrical shock overloads your nervous system! Quite fatal.
Your SIGN OF SMITING is no longer effective.
Your SIGN OF SWORDS is no longer effective.
The glowing specks of energy surrounding you suddenly shoot off in all directions, then quickly fade away.
The brilliant luminescence fades from around you.
You feel less confident than before.
Your SIGN OF DEFENDING is no longer effective.
The layer of stone surrounding you crumbles away.
The silvery luminescence fades from around you.
Your SIGN OF SHIELDS is no longer effective.
You feel your extra strength departing.
The tingling sensation and sense of security leaves you.
You notice your blood flow go back to normal.
You feel your extra magical awareness leave you.
The buzz of thoughts in your mind subsides.
Your SIGN OF STRIKING is no longer effective.
Your SIGN OF WARDING is no longer effective.
You become solid again.
The bright luminescence fades from around you.

DOH!

Was told, in gs3, that you're safe when you hit the 950

Booh stuff still, since the only teleport "we" have can kill us, on the contrary of 100 and 200 circle.

220 can kill clerics.

I still fail with 50 ranks in the 900's, but rarely anything more than a minor

Didn'T knew with 220 killing people. 130, common, can kill?

Suppa, you died with 50 ranks and more with 930?

1020 can kill bards. Well.. Can make em bleed at 20 per, and throw em far enough that they can't get healed. heh.

My Wizard Gate succeeds MAYBE 30% of the time. 50% of the time I get hit, 20% auto-kills me. Which is why I don't use Gate very often.

Editted to say I've only got 30 ranks in Wizard.

I have never once died from 220. Eschaton must suck.

220 must have a .0001% chance of kill. It has to fail badly enough for the "flames" to shoot up... then those flames have to crit you. It's happened to me once since I started playing GS.

Hey, I just said it can kill you, not that it does automatically.

I died once from it, when I was 20 trains and had just got the spell, on about my 2nd or 3rd cast. I thought it was common, didn't dare try again til about 30 trains.

At around 60 ranks of Wizard base I failed around 1 out of 7 casts or so with mostly minors but sometimes shot nerves.

With 70+ I noticed a whole lot less failures. Maybe 1 out of 15-20 mostly minors.

I fail gating maybe once in twenty attempts, and I have not died from it in GS4 at all... don't think I died from it ever in GS3... but it came out after I was 60 I think.

I know it's an old thread but... this morning I finished a hunt and I decided to try 930 again. It still kicks my ass:

Anticor traces a series of glowing runes while chanting an arcane phrase...
Anticor gestures.
A black mist slowly fills the area. A slight crackling sound can be heard from within, and the scent of ozone tickles your nose. Suddenly, an arc of lightning lashes out from the fog and strikes Anticor!
... 30 points of damage!
Terrible shock to neck fuses larynx shut. A painful death follows.

* Anticor drops dead at your feet!

The tingling sensation and sense of security leaves Anticor.
The bright luminescence fades from around Anticor.
Anticor glances around, looking a bit less confident.
The brilliant luminescence fades from around Anticor.
The glowing specks of energy surrounding Anticor suddenly shoot off in all directions, then quickly fade away.
Anticor becomes solid again.
Anticor appears somehow different.
The silvery luminescence fades from around Anticor.
Anticor seems a bit less imposing.
The shimmering multicolored sphere fades from around Anticor.
A luminescent aura fades from around Anticor.
The black mist quickly dissipates.
>
The translucent Anticor disk disintegrates, dropping everything on the ground.

How many 900 spells do you have?

fallenSaint

Anticor: 0
Gates: 2

Sucks when your own spells are more of a challenge than the creature your beating down with your lance!

If you ever write a War Mage Guide, Anticor, you'll have to list the backfiring wizard gate as one of the cons.

Ahh I guess this one area where that the lance can't help you out.

There's a variable that I'm not sure many wizards know about that will help increase your success, but I only share it with pure casters.

:welcome:

More 900 ranks, being unencumbered, no wounds.. They are all supposed to help with 930. Well I've got the unencumbered and woundless part down but only having 30 wizard ranks tends to make gate beat my ass.

And it's way more than Anticor 0 Gate 2 it's more like Anticor 0 Gate 7. I'm gonna keep track from now on of how many times I get wounded/killed from gate and if I was wounded prior to or encumbered.

I would just devote more cash in gold rings until you manage to snag another 20 ranks in Wizard base. Nothing is more frustrating than surviving the hunt but dying trying to get back.

Ohh I've got tons of gold rings I just like using gate every now and then. Ohh yeah I always cast gate in offensive stance too if that matters.
