View Full Version : lnet annoys the hell out of me

What is everyone's thoughts on lnet chat? I find it dumb and irritating as hell. It reminds me of an old AOL chat room with everyone spamming and BSing stupid stuff. Whether the topic is bowel movements or your momma, it really takes away from gemstone in my opinion.

I understand its usefulness, but that seems to be a moot point with so many other forums for communicating.

I find myself typing k lnet almost as soon as I log in anymore.

I have a lot of fun with LNet, but I certainly get the sentiment. There are times I untune LNet, but stay tuned to code. Maybe there'd be some support for a new channel? AntiLnet, or something. I agree that it can be very useful, and maybe another channel would enhance the experience for those who don't enjoy the tomfoolery.

;untune lnet works way better saves the time of typing ;k lnet when you log in every time

Just make a script and add it to your favs to untune. Problem solved.

What the others said.

;untune lnet

If you ;k lnet, you won't be able to even send private messages to those still connected, since you are in essence killing the connection to it.

;untune in this case, is your better and simple option leaving you still able to use the chat functions of it. That and there is also the option to ignore people on it, like me if you take lnet super serious.

One thing i do, so that the lnet chat flow doesn't annoy me, is highlight the strings, and make them all dark colors. This way it is not as eye popping to me when I'm not paying attention to it etc....And you can also shorten the font to a really small size if need be and put it in it's own window

Problem: "I hate talking on the phone. Everyone's a moron."
Solution: hang up the phone.

But you knew that already.

hah, I didn't know you could untune like that, I'm still relatively new to using lich and haven't learned all the options available yet. Thanks all

Before the big push to make Lich the preferred 3rd party app (mostly due to spell info sharing / locating / and Jamus refusing to share info between Psinet users and lich users) Lnet was the only channel and it most generally contained a bunch of coders going back and forth about code.

Once everyone dropped Psinet and migrated to Lich, the entire OOC channel came with it, and now Lnet is the equivalent of the old OOC channel.

I haven't been on Lnet in some time, but if it's like the old OOC used to be, its kind of like.. hmmm. 4chan.. or something.

It is, definitely... but the {code} channel is now where the coders hang out. It's almost totally free of the LNet tomfoolery.

When playing I don't normally use lnet chat, though I will tune in for festivals, or to ask for help. During that time, people are usually quite willing to do their best to aid you with whatever problems you may be experiencing, with lich or GS in general.

With it being sent to the thoughts window, it's easy to ignore. I only get irritated when people spewing out the drivel can't. Just turns into nay-saying lack-wits yapping off at the mouth.

I've seen people discuss "that one time when they were soooo high" for the better part of an hour (not even sharing stories, just tallying bong rips and bragging about the diggity-dankest of the chron-chron weed that they get). Then the same people get really upset that I've scripted an LNet solicitation for help testing some mechanics that repeats on a 20-30 min timer.

People were less likely to be annoying when there was a smaller population but I'd rather have more people available as a resource than not.

Don't you have to tune to lnet chat when you install lich, its been a while so I forgot. Also it doesn't bother me much, I keep lich chats in my thought window.

I think lnet is on by default. In any event, now that I've gotten a few tips here and in PMs, lnet isn't annoying me as much.

I keep it in my thought window, with private messages highlighted. When I have nothing else going on, I read what people are saying. When I'm busy, I don't even notice it. It's good for a laugh a lot of times, but yeah, if you're heavy into your rp or trying to be one with your character I can see where it might hurt that. :)

Yup, exactly what I do.

[LNet] and [Prime] are both highlighted whole paragraph in a dark dark grey, while [Private] and [PrivateTo] are highlighted all in a yellow.

Dear people who respond on Lnet to a conversation going on in Shattered channel assuming that everyone is tuned to Lnet,

Please punch yourself in the face.

Thank you.

;favs delete global lnet

I don't run lnet at all on any of my characters and haven't missed it since the psinet invasion happened. I liked it before that.
