I hunt exclusively with thrown weapons.
Everyone says they are broken but I am doing ok.
I have found a few problems I'd like to see fixed.
1. Hurl doesn't target the available creatures.
I have to type Hurl third orc on the left just for it to say 'target not found'
or 'creature is already dead'. It makes hunting during invasions impossible.
2. All my weapons get stuck in the creature and it's still alive.
I either have to run to my locker and get more (this is because only the
Landing sells thrown weapons) or.. actually that's my only option.
Can't there be a cman or somethin that let's you run up and pull them out
from a living creature and possibly damage the creature in the process?
3. Picking up weapons. I don't mind waiting but if there are 10 things on the
ground can't you just pick up the first available weapon?
4. Forging, oh I just found out today that you can't forge thrown weapons.
Why?
What do you guys think?

Use a chainspear, you can pull it from the target and also cause it to fall down, and you only need to deal with one weapon, or you can get a returner. Those options should deal with most of your problems, however they don't come cheap.

It kind of sucks that the answer to your question was "buy a high-end toy" but then again, think of the rewarding roleplaying experience of being able to realistically act out the ineffective nature of a certain combat style in a magical fantasy setting.

Carry hundreds of ebladed daggers, and good luck.

And for those reasons throwing weapons sucks. To make it that much more enjoyable, you would a high end weapon. I would suggest javelins and aim for the eye.

I wouldn't call thrown completely ineffective, it's just a pain. I can hunt above my level a little bit. I can do bandit tasks. There are just a few things that makes it a little more time consuming to hunt than running around and crushing stuff with a claid.
Oh, and whoever wants to give me a couple of chain spears, go right ahead.

1. I feel your pain. It is a little frustrating during invasions particularly. Everyone else can just spam a button... you have to be a bit more careful.
2. Your idea for "CMAN pullout" is a good one. I like it. Hell, screw making it a cman and just make it part of hurling. It doesn't happen often enough to waste the CMAN points on.
4. Sucks, but also easily fixable.
In fact all of your complaints should be things that can be fixed. There are bigger problems with thrown, but fixing 1 and 4 shouldn't be that difficult... 2 a little moreso.

I found something else that's broken.
Half of the bonus of wizard's strength is not added to the AS of thrown.
Half of Surge of strength is.

Aren't they redoing Thrown?
RSN
It was supposed to have been done what...like 2 years ago? They said it's being "worked on" at simucon
6) Thrown weapons review
a) Lusus is working on it
b) Designs completed
c) New weapons created
d) New CMANs
e) Looking at getting help for him
f) Prioritized “just a couple notches down from monks”
Haven't seen any examples or details, the last post on the officials about it was from like december with lusus posting something like "i'm like for serial working on it guyz"

I meant the spell strength 509
Strength (509) is not meant to boost thrown AS, just melee AS. Phoen's strength doesn't boost thrown AS either from what I remember. They do help with your encumbrance which can be a bitch with hurling.

Lusus still works for Simu?
This thread just gets better and better....
The most recent staff list is from around May...2010. (Can be found around page 14 of the old 2010 goals thread on the officials.)
So, who knows.

That doesn't make sense to me. They both boosts AS from a spell named strength, shouldn't that bonus be applied to thrown?
Oh, and they both decrease archery RT from a strength bonus, don't they?
I don't understand why encumbrance affects thrown but not ranged.
