Figured I would start this thread. I got to see it in a private screening last night, and really enjoyed myself.

I know the movie has not been released yet so I won't spoil anything, but I thought they changed a bunch of minor things that I just didn't get.

Would like to hear your thoughts on it.

Overall I am glad to see the series finish, and I am fairly satisfied with the overall end result.

Edit:Movie had a nice trailer for Immortals and Dark Knight Rises as well. Looking forward to both movies.

lol. My husband has work tomorrow so he's going to nap when he gets home and then stay up all night afterwards, since we got tickets for the 1am.

Last movie I saw was Half Blood Prince. Enjoyed it, but I heard the first part of 7 was a camping montage. I might watch both of them back to back once the pirate streams are up of part 2 (in a decent quality, at least).

I reeeeeeally wish I could do that, but I am pretty sure I would die in a fiery blaze when I fell asleep on my way to work about an hour after the movie ended. I don't do well without sleep!

Have fun though; I'm very envious!

I'm telling you- go to the first show on Saturday morning, usually around noon or so. I did this for the last one and the theater was empty. Breakfast and HP, best Saturday morning ever!

The enitre first half of the book was ridiculously slow which is why I was kind of thrown when I first heard they were breaking them into two movies. But yeah I am excited to go tomorrow night. I wanted to go tonight at midnight, but apparently tickets went on sale for that last month. Heh.

I always love seeing brand new movies on Sunday morning. Never a crowd.

(I'm seeing HP tomorrow mid-day in downtown Boston, though.)

Will be going to see the 12:30 am showing tonight. At least the theater we go to has reserved seating, otherwise I would not be caught anywhere NEAR a theater tonight.

I just love the vibe on opening nights/midnight showings...

And yes, I did take off work tomorrow just to see Harry Potter. My husband is so excited to go tonight as well (lolnot).

This sounds like a fantastic idea, except for the part where I have to crawl my way out of bed before noon on Sunday.

Which one? The one off the Common, or the one in Fenway? I used to live right across the street from the Fenway theater, made midnight premieres so much easier.

And so much better than having to trek to wherever the hell for the IMAX in the middle of the furniture store.

Ha I work a minute away from the freeway theater and live a minute away from the natick imax. Very dumb information about me that no one wants to know.

Off the Common. It's about a 10 minute walk from my office. Leaving work early to see Harry Potter seems like a nice way to start the weekend.

Was good - they did a nice job explaining everything that they implied.. so it helped, though some parts were kinda silly, the whole Severus thing... oh well.

It was worth seeing.

I think the movie suffered from how short Snape's memories were, the lack of any real internal conflict on Harry's part over Dumbledore, the lack of the neccessary explanation of Aberforth and Ariana, the complete absence of the Horcruxes vs. Hallows choice, etc.

Again, worth seeing... but it just made me really want to read the book again, since there were moments that were so much more impacting.

It was fun cheering with the crowd for Molly Weasley and Neville, though.

I was impressed with a lot of the movie, and I cried my little eyes out. I knew there would be changes I didn't agree with, but nothing disappointed me too badly. Even the actor who tried to play Dumbledore did pretty well.
Most of my favorite things about the midnight showing had nothing to do with the actual movie. Besides the awesome costumes, I really liked the sense of anticipation leading up to the movie and then the way everyone laughed and cried and sat in the intense silence and you knew everyone watching was totally into it. Also, I always think candy tastes better at the movies.

CrystalTears

What do you mean the actor who tried to play Dumbledore? That was the actor who had been playing Dumbledore since Azkaban.

Buckwheet

I liked the original actor much better. Maybe that is what they meant.

Wendey

That's exactly what I meant. I didn't like the new guy's interpretation.

TheEschaton
07-16-2011, 03:42 PM
Is he really the new guy if he's been in the last 5 movies?

Buckwheet
07-16-2011, 04:39 PM
If you never got comfortable with him or liked his acting style, then yes, it is okay to call him the new guy.

Because, he is in fact, not the old guy.

Was anyone else waiting for the part where Molly says, Not my daughter you bitch?

I wish that part wasn't so short. It was supposed to be a 3v1 duel against Voldemort that was completely removed, then the Molly and Bellatrix part.

Richard Harris dying put a crimp in my enjoyment of Dumbledore in the later movies. He was irreplaceable.

That said, this last movie was Michael Gambon's best version of the role. He never quite 'fit' into Dumbledore in the other movies, but he seemed to finally find it in this one.

Geijon Khyree
07-17-2011, 07:45 AM
I think the Richard Harris dumbledore was a bit more affectionate/meak as opposed to the Gambon version, he was the Boss of Bosses in Mobsters *(LOL), who was more mysterious and calculating. I actually preferred the Gambon version. Dumbledore was the single most powerful wizard in the series, surpassing Voldemort IMO (Horocrux Hax) and Gambon seemed to play that aspect better to me.

As to the movie I actually preferred how they portrayed the Snape portion. I only read Book 7. The only jarring change to me was adding Dumbledore's brother into the movie, but it also was rather seemless and bridged the story. You see similar choices in Trueblood and Game of Thrones versus their literary versions.

I enjoyed it. My wife lit up like a little kid and Harry Potter spurred her to read books in general a few years ago once she read 6 & 7. She's tore through the Hunger Games, all of the Charlaine Harris books, and some surprising choices besides these genre top sellers since.
