Btw, I assume that the "I wish high school was way more like college" was an universal thought.

That is so true. Professors are the laziest SOBs ever, which is why I will be one.

Yup. My professor just walked in and said..."Well. We are finished for the summer in here. Make sure you finish your quizzes online." Then left.

Agreed. Our Summer Semester was extended for 1 day due to the 4th of July, and the teacher was supposed to be leaving for vacation. So for our last test he handed out the quiz that we did the week before, as he had about 2-3 hours to grade them before he left for the airport. It was very awesome.

Did any of you actually go to a real college?

I went to the University of Missouri - Rolla (now, Missouri University of Science & Technology). It's no Harvard or Cambridge but for engineering it's a very very good school. I went into college thinking it was going to be as easy as high school and the 4.0 would fall in my lap. My first semester I got like a 2.5 and spent the rest of my college career getting that back up to a 3.
Don't get me wrong - I didn't study very hard - but it was way harder to get good grades dicking off all the time. There were only two classes I was able to do well in without much effort.
1. Art appreciation - the instructor was a tenured war vet gone hippy who used to flunk everyone and got in trouble by the administration. Now, he basically gives everyone an A.
2. Basic Engineering - they taught us how to use CAD software and you were only graded on homework and a final test. I skipped every single class and got a high B on the final exam and did well enough on homework to get an A.
Classes that sucked.
1. Themodynamics. Never, ever, under any circumstance, take this unless you're forced to.
2. Calc 2 - it's like, you get done with Calc 1 only to get smacked in the face by Calc 2 and when you pass it you still have to do Calc 3. Seriously, fuck you all.
3. Circuits, weed out class for Electrical/Computer Engineers. It was tough.
4. Physics. I fucking hate you.
5. Chemistry. I fucking hate you ^2.

Yes.
Meh. During my brief stint my profs would take the work as we hand it in, grade it on the spot, hand it back, and make us try again. Sticking us with the original grade of course.
Chemistry and physics were awesome, because I had awesome teachers. Still hate trying to memorize/manipulate the formulae though. Not good with languages.
Edit: Oh, and the physics professor was from montana. One morning he came in to find a cartoon sheep drawn on his blackboard, with it's head stuck in a fence. Montanans have that reputation, if you didn't know. From that day on whenever he would leave problems on the board to solve instead of putting X, N and so on for variables he would draw that exact same cartoon sheep in miniature.
Awesome professors.

You are pretty on the ball with that statement. Lost the last of my techs a few weeks ago, so I am out here by myself. The freezer finally shat the bed, so food doesn't keep for more than 12 hours in this heat. I took a shower the other day though.

Depending on the program, some PhDs admit straight from the BA/BS. The MA/MS is pretty much a consolation prize, if you fail out, for instance, in those cases.

At least in the sciences, you don't need a Masters to go into the PhD program. Some people did have one, but many didn't.

I am working on a Ph.D without a masters, as well. It's a common practice in the sciences.
