I was just informed snake flares... I've never had a chance to use it.. But there's a post on another thread (shown below) that I believe would answer this questions..

As I've said before, I haven't had a chance to use it... I don't swing swords but I'll see if I can get one of my friends tonight to swing it at some critters and I'll post the results.. This won't happen until I get home tonight.

Did a little testing and this is what came out of it... It looks like it may have the possibility of a knockdown if it flares hard enough... I only had some time to get a couple flares in so here's what I saw. I've removed most of the combat and just included the flaring after the hits. As you can see it also has a couple of different flare scripts.
The crimson-eyed black asp strikes out from <FRIEND's> longsword and latches onto the thrak with its sharp venemous fangs. It struggles to shake it off but to no avail as the poison seeps quickly into its blood stream.
... 10 points of damage!
Light blow to back.
The crimson-eyed black asp hisses a warning, then lashes out in a blur and strikes the thrak. Its eyes glint coldly as it momentarilly stares at its victim.
... 15 points of damage!
Nice blow to back!
The crimson-eyed black asp hisses a warning, then lashes out in a blur and strikes the manticore. Its eyes glint coldly as it momentarilly stares at its victim.
... 25 points of damage!
Nice blow to right hand!
The crimson-eyed black asp on <FRIEND's> longsword hisses steadily as it slithers up and down it. With a quick lunge it lashes out at the manticore leaving a painfully stinging bite wound. As quickly as it struck, it recoils back onto the longsword protectively.
... 15 points of damage!
Stubs right hand finger.

After each strike we could see that the critters were partially immobilized, so I'm thinking that it could cause a knockdown if that poison hitting hard enough.
The tall grasses recede as you near a line of pine trees which have been spared the axe. Dense undergrowth now blocks the trail and sunlight must work to find its path through the treelimbs. You also see a thrak that appears partially immobilized, a wandering path and a footpath.

Obvious paths: north, west, northwest
