I have come back to the game after years and years away, and my 30 days is almost up so the fixskill/stats are going to be gone soon.

I tried to set my stats for a combination of growth/TPs/ease of leveling. Any suggestions on switching them up?

One of my main questions though relates to first aid and survival. I've been 1xing in both so far in hopes that it will be a good silver maker in the future. Will training in this ever really be worth it or should I just stick the extra points in things like spells, HP, or lores?

My second main question has to do with runestaff defense. I felt like my defenses were so much higher with a shield. Is it worth it to try a shield/brawl build or is a runestaff defense viable eventually? Right now, I just cant see how I'll get the DS required to hunt around the Icemule area in my late teens/early 20s with a runestaff.

I have my armor use out of the way now and only plan on 1xing in PF until I max out on health so I'll have more points to play with in the future I suspect as well.

Right now, at lvl 12, life is still easy ripping apart snow spectres. They are almost a guaranteed kill with one cast of 906 so I can still fry off them fairly well. Though, by lvl 14 I'd really like to move onto silverback orcs and other things. Spectres don't offer much in return of the way of treasure and by lvl 14 I think frying will be tough because of the level difference.

12 hours until my 30 days is up. Any ideas on changes I should consider making with skills and stats?

You should probably drop First aid and survival, they generally are not all that worth it. I dont like to do 2x AS and MIU, i generally prefer to try to keep closer to 3x spells.

If you end up going GOS your going to hate your low str and con, but you should be fine in any of the others, and you can always fixstat later on.

I'd keep the FA/Survival if you want to skin, its still a good silver generation method.

I'd drop to 1x AS and MIU and put that into spells though.

I'd personally keep HP @ 2x-1 for mana until your into the 50s, i run out of mana with my 50ish wizard still in swams in warcamps.

Ditto on the Str/Con for GoS, but adding weighting to your bolts is pretty awesome, you will have leach soon, so wracking might not be in your plans anyways.

I have not decided on a society yet because I'm still trying to learn all the new aspects to the game.

I am slightly interested in GoS and am wondering how viable that is for wizards?

Thanks for the help so far! I think I may move my stats around a little to add just a tiny bit more to str and con. Aura and Logic grow so quickly that they'll max out very early with where I have them currently so I can grab a few from each of those and a few from dex.

Not very viable for wizards... It has some fun to it when you are coning a large group of grimswarm with some friends but other than that, you get more benefit from being in CoL than you would GoS.. You can't stack the Minor and Major bane so it's either a small AS increase with damge weighting or a little bigger AS increase with Crit weighting... Plus a lot of the stuff uses stamina which us wizards don't have a whole lot of.

You're the first person I've seen take this position. Swarming hunting area every where you go, crit weighting with bolts, and the ability to cast with major nerve damage are all major benefits.

Of course wizards don't have a whole lot of stamina. Then again, they're not using it for anything else either. With a GoS wizard, it's a good idea to train more that just to max health in PF.

CoL affords some conveniences and is easy to use lazily but it doesn't bring as many capabilities to the table.
Sign of wracking is nice... but not particularly in the field unless you're an immolation build. Personally, I don't have a hard time frying with a wizard with base mana plus whatever I can gather from mana leech anyway.

I mastered in GoS to see how it was for a wizard and I just didn't see much advantage with it compared to what I get out of CoL.. Granted I was around level 15 when I mastered and then quit around level 22 so I didn't see what it would have been like in the higher levels.

The other item that I was running into was the fact that the grimswarm in such large numbers, without MOC my defense, even with almost every spell I could obtain, was getting cut down quickly so I had difficulty soloing. And if I got stuck in a call wind with a group of them around me, it was game over.

As for the bolts and the crit, I use hand of tonis so my spell knocks'm down quite often so it's not uncommon for me to take out a critter in two shots.

The critters don't last too long when I'm in group anyway.. tremor, cone, then haste a couple friends and we mow through them.
