View Full Version : Vaalor elven military

According to everything I've read, Vaalor elves are the finest military force for the elves. I'm debating on an rp relying heavily on a militant lifestyle.

I cant find anything really describing their military, though, so I was curious if any one knew of any resources for that end. very interested in rankings, but if nothing is around, I'm likely going to create my own revolving around Britain military as they still use archaic names.

Check the Crimson Legion stuff on Krakiipedia.

Also, there has been a lot in the Ta'vaalor folder on the officials within the last six months. There's a slight chance you can get back far enough in the folder to find some posts in red discussing it.

Whatever you do, don't play a carebear elf. We have enough of those with the promotion of one into the legionnaire roll.

if i wanted that, I would have gone with a sylvan elf.

got my elf in ta'vaalor now, just gotta figure out the citizenship bit.

Ltlprprincess

It's easy, really. If you use Shind a lot, or munch herbs, you can be a citizen by 10. If you have lich, ;townsmith and ;herbheal are your friends for that.

you can be a citizen by 10
Do you have to be level 10+ to get citizenship, or if you work on it hard enough, can you get citizenship before 10?

Rahrah

You can get citizenship before 10, if you go crazy buying stuff. I had to do that with a locker drone to obtain a shop.

Citizenship is easy. Use the NPC locksmith and healer. Buy herbs for scars. Carry on like that and it wont take long. Backroom access is pretty easy too and may as well do that to help build the citizenship points. Just go to every merchant with a backroom, buy 10 of the least expensive items, then sell them back to the pawn shop. It should not take long.

To the original post there are some active Legionnaires still doing weekly drills. Talk to any of them and you will be on your way to some good Vaalorian RP.

HappyGnome

since it was brought up, is backroom access useful? how do you go about doing it? might as well knock out two birds with one arrow, no?

kinda newbie questions but its been a very long time.

HappyGnome

got citizenship at lvl 4. cost for backroom access for various places cost about 300k. jewelers was most expensive, but it was easiest since you can go one room over and sell everything back.

on a side note, it should be much more in depth to be accepted into the ranks then it is. some sort of level oriented quest it something.

being a Squire is the lowest possible and not so much quest but requirement of a Vaalor elf. You have to serve your 100 years somehow. This is just on top of it.

Sometimes I just want to scream, "This is Ta'Vaalor!" and kick somebody in the gonads.

In all seriousness, though, I must admit curiosity on why it is appropriate to wear a dress/parade uniform at all times regardless of activities. While I understand the "for king and country" sentimentality, there are and were very, very few armies who trained and fought in their dress blues (in this case, dress crimsons). And also, why is it that the uniform provided by the recruitment office is incomplete, lacking in any way, shape, or form, "appropriate" leg/foot wear.

As a police officer, we have a standard every day uniform that is worn (hopefully with pride, not always the case) and a dress uniform worn on ceremonial occasions. We also have set times (more or less) that we are "on duty". We are allowed to 'dress down' when not on duty.

With that in mind, I would like to suggest that all reservists be given both dress blues and duty uniforms. I believe it to be more realistic RP, for the superiors (in this case Kakoon) to grant squires days where they can be themselves. The armies of Ta'Vaalor can only be as strong as it's soldiers, and soldiers who (for sake of argument) are always on duty is just asking for trouble (no one would want to fight with a bunch of tired ass brothers/sisters from pulling remarkably long shifts).

Anyways, just a thought that I'm typing as I cook dinner for the family.

we're in uniform at all times because during a muster with the Lord Legionnaire Commanders (the GMs) we were told to be. The uniform is that rank must be shown, if you notice Kakoon wears an armband with 2 braided knots on it however he does wear his jacket during patrols and drills, pants (even for women), closed toed shoes or boots with no high heels, and a cape. People have been reprimanded for the shoes and not wearing pants. Kakoon hasn't worn a cape infront of the Lord Legionnaire Commanders and has been complimented on his uniform so i don't believe that one is as heavily enforced as the others.

I'll throw the idea at Itzel when she gets back from her LOA with the whole drill uniform, everyday uniform, parade uniform and see what comes of it. She may make a wordsmith write up a document about uniforms and post it on the officials, I really don't know. We'll just have to wait until she gets back.

I am fine with how it “enchances” roleplay but the jacket is a bit much.

like I said before, Kakoon wears an armband that shows his rank on a daily basis, he only wears the jacket during drills or patrols. If you can find something you can get altered into an armband tied in one knot by all means do it. I'd suggest taking the wording right off the jacket and putting it on the armband. As long as your rank is displayed and can be easily seen go for it just be sure you're in the jacket during drills or patrols.

I know you probably got your armband specifically altered, Kakoon, but it would make a great duty uniform piece. Something small, inobtrusive that shows rank and coupled with nice boots and pants is effective in establishing the soldier status.

For parade, I'd be partial to seeing a stiff-collared dark crimson jacket with a gold knot of rank, a pair of tailored black trousers with crimson piping, and some spit-shiney dress boots.

I'd also like to see the armory and other parts of the keep used effectively. I don't see why "shops" aren't set up for common things a soldier would need.

Just my two cents again. I'll come up with a detailed list of suggestions and put it up at a later time.

It's my understanding that you only have to wear the uniform/display rank when you're displaying your title? I have a character right now who joined the Crimson Legion, but I don't really like wearing the uniform either. So she isn't right now, but she's also not wearing her "Squire Legionaire, the Crimson Legion Reservist" title right now either. I figured that this was her way of being off-duty.

That was tried by a Squire before who was wearing a dress and "off duty" they were yelled at when a Commander showed up. When in Vaalor you're pretty much always on duty.

You seem to think I care if my screw ups are made public. It's a game, it's rp. I could care less if I get posted about screw up wise or not.

Also, there was a surprise drill last night and yes... I fucked up there, too. A lot.

If you don't care why bring up that it was you at all? If you want to talk about your screw ups start a new thread.

Vaalor is where I get my soap opera fix for the week. If I miss a day I get so far behind it's terrible.

Well, if I get caught and thrown out, it would actually be in keeping with the character somewhat. She's a Zelian cleric and isn't always "all there". Definitely not the person best suited for military life. She would be very upset though (if it registered) because she's all about Vaalor. :)

let's be realistic here, a minor infraction like uniform issues will not get you kicked out of the Legion. I'm not saying there wont be problems but you wont get kicked out.

Which is why I ultimately did have her leave. It was hard to justify playing "crazy" and then demonstrate good military discipline. And to be honest, I'm not a good enough RPer to play "crazy in the Vaalor military" well. Aysu's doing well in drills was actually more my doing well in drills. Though my unintentionally having her miss a drill while logged in two weeks ago because I forgot about it was a good start. She now has the drill/patrol schedule memorized, but couldn't tell you what day today is. :)

Anyway, it was that and the fact that the drills get kind of late in the Eastern time zone on weeknights so halfway through them, I was starting to want my bed. But I rolled up another, more sane, Vaalor elf and I'm moving to the Central time zone in a few weeks, so I think I'll take another crack at it with someone more appropriate when she gets her citizenship and I've settled in after the move. It was fun. :)

Its RP yo. There really is no other reason for it to exist(Or other militia groups, etc.) because generally, everyone fights invasion stuff anyways.

Ta'Vaalor doesn't get nearly as many invasions as it should. They built the Ravelin specifically as a place to invade without killing everyone in Ta'Vaalor, and it never gets invaded.

Well, there's some degree of group tactics, primarily dealing with the Grimswarm, however, as Vaalor doesn't get invaded much. There are drills and patrols/hunts.

There's also some degree of hunting advice and education.
