I am looking for information on what Briar weapons can do.

I know they suck blood to charge up so it can perform crits and can turn on and off but with a +5 AS bonus in addition to the enchant.

I am a little confused with what the flares do. It would be much appreciated if you can shed some light on it for me.

Kitsun's post is about as comprehensive as you're likely going to need...

Luute swings a rose-carved rolaren bastard sword at you!
AS: +296 vs DS: +225 with AvD: +25 + d100 roll: +24 = +120
... and hits for 1 point of damage!
Flashy swing!
You're lucky that it only bopped your nose.
As Luute strikes you, droplets of blood are sucked from you to his rolaren bastard sword, running up the blade to be absorbed by the vines wrapped around Luute's wrist.
Vines of vicious briars whip out from Luute's rolaren bastard sword, raking you with its thorns. You look slightly ill as the glistening emerald coating from each briar works itself under your skin.
... 1 point of damage!
Right leg wrenched hard as you are thrown to the ground!
You are knocked to the ground!
You are stunned for 11 rounds!

I'm guessing you are in some massively damage padded armor or do those flares just stun hard as balls?

he has the best damage padded plate in the game probably... 40 points

and to be honest... Tier 3 which was what brute posted is about 30x better then tier1 if it ain't tier 3 it generally sucks and theres only one tier 3 and I recently sold it to a black hole so good luck with that

There was a bug fix that just went through on these weapons. Can one of the owners go over a before/after on the changes, if they feel so inclined?

When Tier 1 flares were added the weapons were 10x and 11x when raised... even if the weapon was a 4x perfect it became a full time 10x perfect. This has been fixed...Now the flares are pretty lame without the bug +5 after a raise and only charged thru sucking of blood over a timed system.

Tier 3 is 7x and 12x when raised and if you swing like a man can pretty much keep it charged the whole time as it charges off of critters or people you hit.

The flares on the Tier 1 aren't even worth noting

Flares on Tier 3 up to 140 and flares poison on every flare(yes it does both) poison highest I've seen is 60 dissipating at 1 and the poison stacks.

Pre-bug fix: All briar weapons are 10x, poison and damage on a flare, reduce RT by 2 when they flare, poison constructs and inanimates, stack poison, AS boost by tier (+5, +10, +25). Tier 3 also sucks blood from targets at 10% of damage dealt and can infuse flares to do up to 140 damage.

Post-bug fix: Briar weapons are proper enchant and do not reduce RT on a flare. Flares, poison, AS boost unchanged. Still work on constructs? Don't know.

The tier 3 is essentially a 12x poisoning, flaring weapon of mass destruction.

Thanks for the info. Sorry to hear they were nerfed. Glad to see they are still well worth owning.

Much so. The nerf didn't really do at that much to them, imo, and the bug was so obvious that the owners knew it was going to happen. The AS boost is also transferrable, so you can bust out the weapon, activate the boost, then put it away. I sold the Tier 3 because I had switched back to ranged/spells, but I was still using it that way for a few. I'd go kill a hill troll, charge it, then wait until I needed a +25 AS boost for 2 mins, rinse and repeat.

An odd thing the poison flares.. Hels said with the Tier 3 he saw like max 50pt poison, but he hit me a bunch with it and the highest poison I took was like 5 per round. (Probably out of like 20 poisons).

I don't own any poison weapons anymore, but has anyone else observed that damage padding may play a role in the strength of the poison?

Demage padding helps with all flares

Demage padding helps with all flares

Unless specifically coded in, poison is not a flare per se (unless its been changed heh, its been 3+ years) its a different 'thing' in GSL.

All I can say, but padding won't help against a poison unless the creator intended it to.

Avoiding getting hit is obviously the best defense.
