i was thinking i could 3x armor until i got into chain hauberk and then relax to 2x. dropping dodge to 2x would certainly open up points, but i'm not sure what other training is viable. i'm also thinking i want to switch to polearms.

i'm currently wearing 4x brig and swinging a 2x battle axe, but i have a 5x awl-pike and 5x chain hauberk.

suggestions?

Triple to 80 ranks of armor use for metal breastplate, or use the 5x haub.

2x pf
2x weapon skill
2x cm
2x dodge (3x is too many points for pre cap) or 1x if you want to get a second weapon choice
MOC - Get up to the thresholds you want, and then either keep it that way and use your points on something that will affect the now, and fixskills next year or keep plugging away at it.

Climb/Swim get it when you need it
first aid/suriv/Perception - personal choice

3x armor
2x cm
2x thw (switching to polearms when i can swing my 5x awl-pike)
2x pf
2x dodge
1x MOC

when should i consider putting points into ambush? am i correct in that perception doesn't help ambushing and only helps aiming?

i'm also not sure what to use my armor points on.

If you don't hide you shouldn't need/want many ranks of ambush until much later. I currently have 50 ranks of ambush, (while leveling I had spare points and put 20 into ambush for a long time) some other warriors are also .5x and a few I think are 1x. CM is the main skill used for open ambushing I believe, and ambush helps a little. I have never used pole-arms so I can't comment on how hard it is to aim a awl-pike, but lances are pretty tough I hear.

I know you didn't ask for Cm's but I was around lvl 36 when I started playing gs4 I think, and CM's were new to me. I started out with bonding + wspec3 and passives. I currently don't use any cmans except cman surge of strength. I use warrior guild skills for combat, I suggest starting with tricks, disarm and warcries.

Perception helps for bows, fu, and I haven't ever done hiding + ambush so I'm not sure if perception helps there or not. It helps to spot traps in boxes, bandit traps, and helps reduce ambush push down, along with other misc things.

Stats, I would also change your stats around before your 30 days is up, you're physical stats will grow quickly while your other stats will not. I didn't ever expect to get to cap, but I am almost there and wish I didn't have/want to buy a fixstat potion.

what would be a more optimal stat placement? i really don't understand the stat growth formula.

i just recently started playing with CMs, i haven't gotten into guild skills yet. are CMs like trip, bullrush, and charge useless when you consider the guilds alternatives?

Skill name Mnemonic Ranks
Combat Mobility mobility 1
Bull Rush bullrush 2
Surge of Strength surge 1
Parry Mastery pmastery 2

Available Combat Maneuver Training Points: 1

*edit

updated my cmans as follows

Specialization I wspec1 2
Combat Mobility mobility 1
Surge of Strength surge 1
Parry Mastery pmastery 2

Usually you want to kill quickly, so getting wtrick feint from guild tricks, and then ambushing the head, removing a limb, or mstriking is what I do.

For stats, I would try to get your dex/agi bonus to a reasonable RT reducing number for your race, and then put your con/str pretty low so it will allow you to put your points into other stats that grow slowly.

One stat cruncher is here. I think there are others, but when I was placing stats I used tsoran's spreadsheet.

thanks alot, this is very helpful.

so to swing the awl-pike (9s RT) at 5 seconds i need to get agi + dex = 53
as a half-krolvin agi/dex bonus is 55. so i should max these? then lower str and con until i have enough point to have maxed mental stats at 100?

Berserk is such a useful thing, it would be crazy not to get that asap in my opinion.

>stance offensive
You are now in an offensive stance.
>mstrike
You concentrate intently, focusing all your energies.
With instinctive motions, you weave to and fro striking with deliberate and unrelenting fury!
You swing a star-hilted dark saw-tooth falchion at a manticore!
AS: +179 vs DS: +40 with AvD: +35 + d100 roll: +57 = +231
... and hit for 55 points of damage!
Strong slash to throat nicks a few blood vessels.
The manticore is stunned!
You swing a silver-hilted dwarven forged falchion at a manticore!
AS: +157 vs DS: +15 with AvD: +35 + d100 roll: +64 = +241
... and hit for 61 points of damage!
Slash to the manticore's chest!
Breathe deep, it'll feel better in a minute.
The manticore falls to the ground and dies.
You swing a star-hilted dark saw-tooth falchion at a manticore!
AS: +179 vs DS: +57 with AvD: +35 + d100 roll: +44 = +201

You swing a star-hilted dark saw-tooth falchion at a thrak!
AS: +179 vs DS: +65 with AvD: +34 + d100 roll: +6 = +154
... and hit for 24 points of damage!
Blow to back cracks several vertebrae.

** Your dark saw-tooth falchion releases a spray of acid! **

... 30 points of damage!
Acid dissolves the knee ligaments. The thrak's tibia passes its femur in a very unpleasant manner!
It is knocked to the ground!
The thrak is stunned!
You swing a silver-hilted dwarven forged falchion at a thrak!
AS: +157 vs DS: +2 with AvD: +34 + d100 roll: +42 = +231
... and hit for 48 points of damage!
Fast slash to the thrak's neck exposes its windpipe.
Quick anatomy lesson, anyone?
The thrak hisses one last time and dies.

Your flurry of strikes leaves you off-balance and out of position.

now this is FUN.
