I'm thinking about joining this game again.
Been trying to get my life back on track, just got done at IMX (International Magic Experience) last month, got my food handlers card rewnewed, going to find a job (finally!). Also going to a community center to socialize. Here's a couple days I have. I think, if I can manage it in these ways, I can do it, for one, I tended to let the game control me, like, I'd come home early from the gym to play. I have to remember it's just a game, nothing more. Life is more important! Also, I think if I could set a timer and set it for 2-2.5 hours a day playing, I could manage well. I was doing pretty well on it afk scripting, and then close to cap it was much more difficult. So, I'm thinking of starting a paladin. What do you think? I really miss you guys.
And glad to see fortybox back. Did Michaelous cap yet?
And yeah, I sold Leland, but you know what, I've always played a warrior, I'm going to look on the bright side and view this as a whole new experience to learn.

The only thing that concerns me is the merchants that come...
Whenever a merchant would come, I would be glued to the computer screen no matter what like flies on sandpaper. This is a big problem. especially since they don't come so often. It is just a game, but I'd like some nice gear too.

Merchants are lame, and there's so much neat stuff floating around in people's locker, just keep an eye out for the things for sale on the PC.

YEah I know, but I'm going to be broke. I'd like to get some nice gear.
And it is just a game, but damn, I want some nice gear too...will probably have to manage it and get lucky in the 2 hours, hopefully come back and check on the screen when a merchant is there. I hope this works

Shattered is different. They will add 30 pts of weighting/padding to your stuff.

Highend gear is highly overrated. I've always hunted with 5-6x gear and done great.

Highend gear isn't necessary, but when you got it there is a huge difference. It's like going from a RAZR to a smart phone.

Play a bard. Sonic weapons/armor > merchant gear.

Ifor has a good point, make a bard and then no need for worry about armor/weapon. Also welcome back, hope it works out for ya.

you could try an open handed caster, saves some money then you just need armor

I'm going to do a paladin. Caster + redux + heavy armor = win IMHO.
I like taking hits, I Could never go pure or completely semi like a bard with lighter armor.

What should I train in? Whats the most important? And where can I learn more about 'em?
Thanks!
I also looked at the spell circles, so somewhat familiar.

My training path was polearms, after 30 days he was mid-upper 20s. mainly went for redux, somewhere around here put armor training up to 80 for chain hauberk. kept spells low to keep redux high so only trained up to 1611 and 101. this is my redux build:
max weapon
max pf
high dodge(near max)
cman max-10(1611 provides the +10)
11 paladin base, just enough for 1611
at this point I put the rest in harness power for buffing yourself and twc for easy redux points. This got me to mid-upper 40s where I eventually fixskilled for 29 ranks of paladin base for bonding and got rid of the twc for redux fodder. may go back to twc fodder after getting enough armor use for plate depending how hard he's getting hit

Yeah, I'll second that. Bards rock, my bard is only at 9.5 mil exp, but I hardly ever die in OTF, and when I do, who cares, I don't lose anything but a bit of gold.
Also, merchants... you just have to bite the bullet and use a bit of willpower. I want seriously cool gear too, but I never pay attention to when they come; I've only gotten two merchants in the entire time shattered has been open and it's no big deal. With the festivals you still have a chance to get decent gear off the shelf, and there are always other players who might be willing to trade with you. Just don't bother with weapons at all since they are throw-away in shattered.
Also, welcome back, if there is anything I can do to help let me know.

I also had a Pally that I got up to around 50 or so. It was the easiest character to level ever, of course I had a wizard and an empath to spell him up. If you level up enough to hunt around Illy, I'll be happy to spell you up with my empath.

My pally has been running without a hitch for about 30 levels now with a shield and an eonake morning star flaring plasma. Course, he'll be deactivated in 9 days, but it's still been working well.
